Drivetrain Going catless, but how?
Going catless, but how?
I bought my countryman a few months ago and immediately placed a DDM intake and 2.5" cat back exhaust on it(I know they don't add power, blah blah get over it I like the way it sounds). I have the jb+ installed and I'm getting ready to get a catless DP and the delete R, but here is my problem. I can get into and under my engine and get the DP changed out myself if I need too, but there is still the second cat that I need removed. My 2.5 exhaust begins after the 2nd cat because I can't find a shop that is willing to remove it because of federal regulations. So how do I go about deleting my second cat and connecting my catless DP to my exhaust if I can't find a shop willing to do the work? And no I don't have access or the know how to cut my cat out and weld the flange and piping together myself, or know anyone else that can.
Ideas:
1. Take a welding class and do it yourself (I've always wanted to take a class but I can't ever make time for it).
2. Post an ad on craigslist and see what responses you get. There's probably someone out there willing to do it.

You can easily and legally have a 'test pipe' made for racing and track use.
I would suggest ordering two sets of V-Bands (you might be able to do it with 3 units depending on the design) for the correct size pipe.
Take those to the welding shop that you would like to do the work, they will cut out the Catalytic, install the V-Band on it, and also make a 'test pipe' for use on the track.
Now you can swap out the Catalytic for the 'test pipe' and vise versa, now if you happen to forget that you did not swap back one day after a track session well . . . .
I would add a Stainless Steel Bung and L-Adapter to the 'test-pipe' so the O² sensor has a place and does not trip the ECU with an error.

Where are you located? Interested in unloading that resonated pipe?
Thanks!

Thanks!

Take a sawzal or angle grinder with cut off wheel and cut it out yourself. Replace it with a straight pipe or something with a straight through resonator to help with the rasp. I ended up making a section that is removable with band clamps to test for sound. Just cut out the same length section you will be replacing with. See picture of what I cut out and what I replaced. I used butt connection band clamps to attached on either end. Easy as pie. I ended up taking that out and welded a larger resonator due to the increased sound I anticipated from the DP I was putting on. So, now I have this one I originally made laying around.
I'm in nj. Ill pm you.

Update, still can't find a shop that will do this. I'm not even asking them to touch my exhaust, just make a pipe that has the right bends and flange to connect to my downpipe and I'll do the rest. No one will touch it, they all say the same thing "That's a $25,000 fine and 5 years in prison". Looks like I can either try and piece it together myself somehow, or spend a ton of money to completely replace my exhaust that I've already paid to have done in order to get a mid pipe that would connect my downpipe to my existing aftermarket exhaust.
Got it done finally. Spent way too much time under my car yesterday with a chain cutter, pipe, and clamps, but took out the cat and got a cheap parts store pipe in it's place. Went to a muffler shop and told them I made my exhaust ugly and want it fixed. I now have the 2.5" frommy downpipe back. Time to order my fmic, dp, and turbo!

Yes, I had them replace the flex pipe that connects to the DP back. It's a full 2.5 exhaust minus the downpipe.

I'm looking at http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/281325022773?lpid=82I'm doing more research to see if this is going to be a good option. I had my eye on jmturbocooper 42 trim turbo, but the site is down or something, I just keep getting a page loading error. I'll keep looking for it to come back up. I'm going to collect all the parts this fall/winter and get them installed with a tune in the spring. So I have a little time to find a good turbo, what would you guys suggest?
