I'm looking at the 407DP/ALL4 exhaust from VIP Customs out of Scottsdale...it removes the second cat, but doesn't affect the O2 sensor. I live in Las Vegas and fear that if I get this exhaust I will not pass a smog check. I read in this thread that the second cat was removed on the exhaust installed. So I was kind of wondering if your out West or if anyone could help ease my concern about removing the second cat. Truly appreciate any help

I think it is highly likely you will pass smog with only the cat in the downpipe.

Many of us have or have used the VIP system.

As I have mentioned in a half-dozen other threads, the second cat is not a US spec requirement, but rather a Euro clean-air requirement.

You can safely remove it and pass even CA smog tests here. Additionally, since it is behind the 2nd O2, this does not constitute modifying your vehicle's emissions control devices.

Good deal. Truly appreciate the help. I researched the VIP exhaust in the forums but didn't find much. Once again thanks for the info.

Sorry, you mind if I ask a couple more questions?? You had mentioned a couple people have or had the VIP exhaust. We're people generally satisfied with it? Also, in a couple of your posts you mention a NM Tune, what is NM and how do I get it?

From what you have heard is the VIP exhaust decent? You had also mentioned a NM tune in a couple of your posts. Who is NM? Where can I get it done?

Sorry for the questions...I'm new to the R60...had an R53 and did a lot modding to it, never got around to tuning it though

Thanks

Here's the link for NM Eng. Great outfit, purchased my 19" wheels from them. Also looking at the tune as well....As far as VIP, again great company and quality...purchased several items... Almost did the exhaust but ended up going with JCW .... Wanted a nice tone but wasn't sure if the VIP would of been to much for this aging guy

just to throw this out here ...

i installed a milltek DP back exhaust system on my all4

it replaces everything from the DP flange back and is 63.5mm (~2.5") all the way from the DP flange, i measured

it comes with 100mm (~3.9") exhaust tips

to install, i removed all the cross bracing and removed the stock exhaust in one piece, installed the milltek but did not tighten the clamps, reinstalled the cross bracing and tightened the clamps

the milltek uses all the original mounting hardware / mounting points

total time including jacking up and down was less than 90 minutes with a friend helping, spent ~30 minutes jacking as it was the first time

the tone is deeper than stock

at steady speed, the volume is slightly louder than stock, but not much

full throttle is louder than stock, but not ricer loud

no drone, not raspy

the power (torque) has moved ~1000 rpm lower while the top end is also stronger, the car pulls strong from 2000 rpm and pulls hard right to the rev-limiter

for the pop & burble lovers, it is MUCH more pronounced

i really can't say what effect the milltek has made on fuel mileage because i installed it with less than 2000 miles on the car ... at 11000 miles, my overall mpg is still climbing

at $1200 it is an expensive mod, but i would do it again

here is a link to a picassa album of the system, 37 photos

https://picasaweb.google.com/1043068...eat=directlink

here is a photo of the DP back through the flex joint, no neck down here ... other angles in the link above

here is a photo through the flex joint

the business end ... i needed to adjust the tips ... photo taken after first run

Thanks for the videos Theta. It gives a better idea of what this would sound like. I was seriously considering removing the stock resonator and 2nd cat without any replacement resonator, but I'm convinced this would result in a lot of drone being it's right under the floor where you sit.

That said, I was worried that the big 4" body 28" muffler you used would quiet the exhaust tone too much, even with the dump open. You mentioned in your post that it was "quiet" with the dump open, right?

I'm thinking of opting for a 12" or 18" resonator from Vibrant. Something like http://www.summitracing.com/parts/vpe-1791/overview/ combined with pipe to make up for the length. I was thinking this would reduce the drone, but allow a little more sound out of the dump when it was open.

Also, since I'm not All4, there should be lots of room before the suitcase muffler to put a dump.

I know you've long been rid of this car/setup, but I'd value your thoughts on what you'd do differently (and my proposal) if you were doing it again (but in a non-A4).

Thanks,
