Hey guys the good thing about laws is they are available online, so I would suggest looking them up so you know first hand. If you find out you can't remove it based on NC law, I'm not convinced the second cat is very restrictive because inside it looks like a hollow cylinder with a single screen.

After pulling the 2nd cat and resonator off my r56, I dropped by a shop that gave inspections and asked for a emissions read out only on my new custom exhaust. They said it passed 50 state emissions with good margins, so I'm guessing the 2nd cat is an oem cya if the primary cat performance diminishes over time.

Thank you Theta. Especially the tip on the magnaflow resonator. I originally took the second cat and resonator out and replaced it with a vibrant 18". It sounded really good but droned a little on the highway. I just welded in the magnaflow and that thing is quiet! Not that I'm looking to go that quiet but am prepping for the new down pipe, mani and turbo. I know the sound will increase with those mods and the magnaflow should keep it at bay... Hopefully. I will report back.

Thanks
Chris

Hi Guys, I have a Cooper s 2003 R53. Since i bought it i have issues with it. Most recent is the manifold is getting red hot on RPM higher than 3500. In idle work is just getting very hot. I took it to 2 different garages over here and they are all claiming that everything is normal with the car. In the 1st garage they thought its the manifold so i got another manifold (used one) together with the sensors which they changed and again is showing the same issue. The garages are telling me that per the diagnosis all seems fine (timing, valves) Can someone advise what to do im getting super annoyed on this car. Thank you

You should post this as a new thread in the 1st gen section. This thread is about exhaust for a countryman.
