Drivetrain Just got my NM Eng air intake
#2
Help?
So i started to install my intake this AM. Started taking the large intake hose from MAF sensor to the turbo inlet and noticed a small airflow sensor of some sort that is "capped" . See enclosed picture. The problem is the NM Eng intake doesnt have a port in the aluminium hose to place this sensor. Any Ideas? waiting on NM Eng to open on monday I guess. The bummer is they advertise this intake as functional with the R60s.
The sensor is on the drivers side of the intake just adjacent to the coolant reservoir. Has a male hose end that is completely close off and a 2 wired sensor clip that attaches next to it....

Installed
NM Eng intake tonite. Took about 30 min. 15 min was used trying to bolt the steel bracket to the grommets without dropping the bolt and washer into engine bay. Finally got it but a PIA. Works well. No check engine light yet. Seems to be peppier but only drove a couple miles. Will try to post pics later.
There are some instructions that are missing but not to hard to figure out.

Yep, it's been out for a couple months now. Very first item on this page:
http://www.vipcustomparts.com/R60%20parts%20page.htm
They also sell them on eBay, and I have an eBay coupon to use. :P
Just looking for feedback on the NM vs the VIP (or even the feedback from installing a CAI) before I pull the trigger.

Sorry for the late response. Been busy at work.
I think it sounds great. Nice growl with your typical whoosh and psssssss as the turbo spins up and down. I think it has added significant power. My wife agrees and she has only driven it a couple times! Father in law and other passengers have also noticed a difference in torque. I notice it most between 1500 to 4000 rpm or so. I have also noticed about a 1mpg improvement since installing whatever that means.

I just got my VIP intake installed yesterday, and I'm completely there with you now. What a cool sound that is.
Whines like crazy while boosting, loud "kssssh" on blow-off. I don't feel any power gain - that's going to really need a tune to unlock the AFR, etc.
I'll probably post a new thread, but we're good guinea pigs for having people look at the differences to compare, etc. Maybe I can get a sound video up, too. Sounds better driving than revving, but it's all nice.

Well, it's certainly not that hard of a choice since DoS does not currently make an intake for the R60.
