Rear spoiler compartment filling with water

Now then folks. As the title says my rear spoiler compartment seems to collect a lot of water when it rains. Only noticed it when I open the boot (Trunk) and it all comes gushing out.

Is this normal or should there be drains in that area.

TTFN

there are drains and if yours are blocked a problem is on the way .... look in the corners ..... and an easy way to clear a clog is to run some heavy fishing line down the holes .... water should flow freely thru these holes .....

Cheers for that info Capt. I can see a grid of sorts that has a few leaves and debris in. I can also see a couple of small holes in the corners of the Boot (Trunk) lid adjacent to the hinge arms. I assume this is where the water escapes from.

I'll have a poke around later.

this drain near the wing hinge arm mount

lines up with this drain hole on the lower lip of the boot - one on each side ..... water poured in the drain should run out from under the boot lip and over the bumper

you don't want any leaves or crud in that drain area ... in addition to blocking the drain it would hold moisture around the hinge promoting corrosion and could JAM the wing . . .

Thanks again for the info Capt. I went out this evening and ended up pulling the drain system apart to clear it.
1st Photo shows the trap from the inside of the Boot (Trunk) lid after the panel is removed

Pressing the little clips in soon had the grill detached, cleared out with a bit of wire amd plenty of hot water.

I then ran a Trombone cleaner through the connecting rubber pipe and out through the grommet on the underside of the Boot (Trunk) lid down by the rear bumper (Fender)

All good and now water flows freely.

My first bit of maintence on my newly aquired Roadster. Quite satisfying really.

NAILED IT!!!

Appears your roadster found a good home

since it appears certain maintenance items might be lacking in the area, I'd check the wing "machinery" .... I annually clean/degrease the various joints in the arms of the lift mechanism (WD-40 is a good degreaser) then (re)apply a bit of spray lithium lube. <yellow box>

and you've learned this is an area to check for junk collection if that's a problem where you live (different places have different types of fallout) .....

Used one on my MX5 Miata. If the roof drains blocked on these cars then the water ends up in the cabin.

Yep i clean my ones on my R58, when you wash your MINI, check them and spray some water down them, sounds like a sucking noise when they work. Leaves and junk gets in there.
