The MINI Coupé and the MINI Roadster:The End.

Sad News for sure.
Munich. Changeover at MINI Plant Oxford: while worldwide demand for the new MINI 3 door and the new MINI 5 door launched a few months ago increases continuously, production of two model variants from the preceding generation of the original in the premium small car segment is about to come to an end. The two individual two-seater athletes MINI Coupé and MINI Roadster will finish their career together and as planned. In taking this step, the British premium car manufacturer continues the change of generation in its model program and in terms of vehicle production at the Oxford plant. The new MINI 5 door is now produced there in seven engine variants, as is the new MINI 3 door.

See the other thread: once the convertible goes to F5x based they would have an entire body line for two low volume cars, which is uneconomic.

No issues with these going away. I like having an uncommon car.

Thanks to BMW/MINI for making such a fun to drive roadster. It is a pleasure to drive the R59 everyday. 😊
Like the Z4, S2000, etc roadsters will always be a tiny niche enthusiast car. I'm glad the cars were made for as long as they were. Now bring on the Z2 or a Z4 that handles like a MINI and I will buy another one in a few years.

Got 16 bittersweet months left on my lease for the Cooper S Roadster. Would be nice know if they will build the Superleggera before I need to decide on buying it for the residual value or see what else is on the market in May 2016. It really is a great car for a third of the price of other great British roadsters like the Jag F-Type.

What can be said regarding this sad news? I was anticipating the next generation of MINI Roadsters, looking forward to it actually. Based on the preliminary concepts, the wait seemed worth it. It's too bad the BMW/MINI finds the R58 and R59's low sales a reason to discontinue making the two models. I'm glad the MINI R59 captured my attention and subsequently by heart. I certainly wasn't shopping for a 2 seater convertible nearly two years ago, but I'm glad I made the decision to buy one.

I went to buy a Coupe and came out with a Roadster, thanks to my wife. Best decision ever.

I too wasn't looking for a MINI Roadster. But like you say, once you've driven one. Your hooked.
My second MINI Roadster and now will be for a long time.

MINI/BMW press release did not mention any "final order date"....
Has anyone heard of the U.S. order cutoff date? Dealers not "anxious" to say...."better just order today and production slots are limited..." Thanks for any info.

I asked and when they looked for production slots I was told there were only three slots left for my region. I asked last month. Lucky I found the exact car I wanted on the lot a few states away about 2 weeks ago.

We were planning to upgrade our justa roadster to a JCW roadster sometime this April 2015 but my dealer could not guarantee if they will have a slot for a roadster let alone a JCW version. They were able to receive one January slot since they just sold a JCW roadster recently and that person waited like four months for a roadster slot. We did order on 12/26/14 a Lightning Blue 2015 JCW roadster and the car is at the VDC now.

Congrats on your order, MINI #1. Glad you made it in time.

This really is depressing :(. It would be nice if they came out with another on the new platform, but I doubt it....

I found a dozen people hanging around the Roadster at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show. I didn't want to spoil their fun with the news of the cars demise.

Ordered and in production

I, too inquired about availability and was told to order by February for March allocation which will be produced by April. That will be the last of the parts ordered for these models and any remaining production of cars will be limited in options.

Hmm the fact that it was there makes me wonder if they are not done with the segment or idea yet?

I too was at the Chicago Auto Show and saw the R59 in Pepper White. I spoke at some length with a young man who was an employee of a local Chicago auto dealership (not MINI USA or BMW N/A)...he seemed to be under the same impression as those of us following this thread.....limited time remains to custom order one.....
