R59 Cockpit room compared to convertible
Cockpit room compared to convertible
Hello Lucky Roadster Owners!
Can someone offer a little perspective as to the amount of interior driver space of the roadster as compared to the regular 4 seat convertible? At 6'5" and 300lbs I found the convertible very comfy, I was just not crazy about the 4 seats.
This seems like the ultimate configuation of they have not done away twith the leg or headroom....
THANKS!
Rob

The Convertible and Roadster are identical until the seatbacks or up to the window glass. Same seats, same position, same cabin - not just similar but identical.
At 6'5" I suggest you need to test drive a Roadster. There is plenty of headroom, about the same as a Convertible, but the windshield header rail and the tops of the side windows are very low. At 'only' 5'11", I couldn't happily drive with the seat at anything other than the lowest position.
Bear in mind that you can't see most of the Roadster/Convertible differences when you're driving, so unless it is the external appearance that matters, there isn't that much difference.
I started with a Convertible and switched to a Roadster and, if I had that decision again, I would think hard about staying with the Convertible. The Convertible is quieter and less blustery roof down, much quieter roof up (the Roadster has only a single layer hood), though the roof takes much longer to go up/down.

It will depend what speed you drive at. I cruise at an indicated 85mph and at that speed there's a night and day difference in wind noise through the convertible top between the Roadster and Convertible. I'm surprised how effective those multi-layer tops, like the Convertible has, are at cutting noise.
What amazes me most about the R59 top is the precise, air-tight fit. Not even a hint of misfit or air leakage anywhere.
I was just at MINI's ON TOP there was a guy 6' 7", he said he fit like a glove into the 2013 Roadster...

Ditto. There's clearly leg room aplenty for a much taller person in this car.
When I test drove, the first thing I did after dropping the top, though, was to lower the seat all the way. I felt like I was peeking over the windshield at the highest setting. Might be an issue for the very long torso'd. Then again, leaning the seat back should help there; I keep it fairly upright.
