R59 First topdown day in chilly Massachusetts
First topdown day in chilly Massachusetts
I picked up my 2013 Cooper S Roadster a little over a week ago from the Boston dealership, but other than small bursts of topdown trips, I have reluctantly had the top up. (When there is 14 inches of snow in my yard, feels a little early for that.) However, it warmed up to a sunny 54 today, so on my 80 minute commute drive home from Boston to my home in Princeton, I decided it was time -- cranking the heat and putting the top down. Glorious ride home!
Welcome!
There have been a good number of top-down days this winter. Get a woolly hat and crank the heat and any sunny day with dry roads above about 30 degrees is a great day for getting some fresh air!

Hey neighbor, I agree crank the heat and put the top down on those weekend days you are just riding around. Snow almost gone now. Ride thru Princeton all the time on the bike heading north

Hi Richwagner,
Quick question, how long was your wait from the time you place the order to when you actually picked it up? I found a car in CA but it doesn't have everything I want so now I"m debating on ordering one but dont' want to wait so long I miss summer to drive it.
Thanks!
Danny

The roadster is well represented in Massachusetts... I'm from Leominster... We will undoubtedly cross each other's path... I should be getting my roadster within a week... Being dropped off in NJ today ...
Danny,
8 weeks is about right... For MA... For CA; not sure..

Just waiting for the 6 inches of snow to melt and muddy driveway to dry up. Patience!
Actually ordered the car through Mini of Bedford, NH, an affiliate of Mini of Peabody, about the same distance but much easier ride... You should post some pics... My signature statement has my specs... Roadster is now docked and ready to be unloaded ... What were you driving before the roadster ? Princeton to Boston is a long commute ...
Let's see: Spiney, Zulu, you, me, and probably others from Massachusetts ... We could form our own little roadster club..

Princeton to Boston is definitely a long commute, but fortunately I only need to go in 2 times a week. So, hard to complain too much about that, especially when driving the Roadster. :-)
Yes, I have been meaning to post some pictures. I was waiting for a great sunny day without a foot of snow in background, but I will post what I have so far.
I like the idea of a MA Roadster club!
Jonack, when you custom ordered your roadster were they able to work with you on pricing? maybe even negotiate options? I know choosing a car on the lot would give me leverage on stuff like this so just wanted your experience.
Danny,
We negotiated on the final price of the roadster, and on the trade-in value of my car... Did not negotiate individual options..
Check my specs... Car is loaded except for sport suspension and JCW highlights/ package ...
The price came to 37,700.00... They took 2000.00 off making price 35,700.00... They allowed 18500.00 for my car, up from 18000.00..
Best,
JoNack

Welcome aboard Richwagner...
Post up some pictures..
I live exactly 8 /12 miles from the Quabbin and I drive through Princeton as part of my job so one of these days I hope to see you Jonak and Spiney..
Haven't been through the Attleboro's in awhile, I originally came from Attleboro Falls.
I got my roadster in December and as of an hour ago I have 32hrs with the top down.... 37 degrees and some sun and it goes down..
What a winter, I had more top down days in February than in March...
I still haven't seen another roadster on the road and I have 6500 miles on the odometer.

XxThalakosxX,
I've had a boat load of folks say that they thought of me when they saw that commercial.....

It will be a rush when we all meet on a planned excursion... Take some pics, post them ..
Andy, we will have fraternal twins ... Same color scheme , except for black wheels , lights, and interior highlights...
Even my wife is getting excited .... She's come a long way since she established ( months ago) that I was nuts to give up the Bimmer for this...

I had an awesome top down day today! Took my car in for service and the loaner was a 2013 Eclipse Gray. It was not such a great day for top down but I wanted to see if I can muster the drive from Westchester to Princeton.
Now I know how you guys feel... Wow and I was grinning from ear to ear. I love the feeling that I have not done this since college.
The 2013 is an awesome car with the new N18 Engine as it is quiet under the bonnet - Not the loud ticking noise like the one I test drove last year. It was surprisingly preppy for a base and the exhaust note was very very nice.
At first I thought I would miss the S but this Roadster is quite nimble, firm, handling is solid but after a while I need a bit more power to get up an go like my S.
This was a great opportunity to really test drive the Roadster and see if I can muster the daily driving with it. Not sure about the summer heat in NJ though...
One thing for sure is that my ski will fit from the boot to the hand brake so that is a huge win. So it is time to save up and put the money aside for this Roadster.

By the way, Mini has had the N18 engine in the S version since the 2011 model year. So, that roadster that you drove in 2012 was also a N18 engine. Only the JCW engine switched from the N14 to the N18 this year. Yes, it can be confusing.
I actually had my first Roadster sighting in downtown Boston yesterday on State Street on way home from work. Black S, I believe.
