Questions on De-Badging and DE-Chroming my Roadster

Couple of questions.

Does anyone know if the body under the front and rear MINI wings has alignment pin holes? Has anyone seen blackened wings?

Does anyone with a Pepper White MINI have the black headlight and taillight rings. I'd like to see what they look like before I make the change.

Has anyone used the pinstripe method for blacking out the chrome that runs around the vehicle a the roof line. If yes, do you like the way it looks?

Which Black grill surrounds fit on the Roadster S?

Anyone see black door handle covers, I've only seen carbon fiber?

Anyone have pictures of there de-badging de-chroming on any color vehicle?

Thanks for any feedback,

Andy

(Not yet, but I have a set of both headlight and taillight black rings. I just had my JCW side scuttles scuffed and painted gloss black today. Really look nice, I think. We did the Motegi Racing Wheels in gloss black too.)

Anyone see black door handle covers, I've only seen carbon fiber?

(No, but I have a pair of carbon fiber door handles if anyone is interested in them.)

Bill.........Raggi is still out in No mans ocean.

A company called Aesthetic Creations used to make and sell black snap-ons for the door handles but the went out of business. The ned best thing that I can think of, buy MINI snap-on, have it sanded and repainted.

Talking if you..........

If you wanna just see how they would look go make a $6.00 investment and pick urself up sum "plastidip" at home depot....this stuff is super easy to use even if you are not that handy or have never painted before there are a ton of "how too vids" on you tube. The great thing about this stuff is its really durable and if and when you dont want it black anymore you can simply peel it off....I just did mine today by coincidence they came out great and only took me 1 hour to prep paint and clean off excess overspray.......I say go for it then u will know without having to spend alot of $$$$ I give you one of the many links to start your how to exploration.........here ya go

I plasti-dipped everything on my R56, removed the Cooper S emblem on the back and replaced it on the passenger side secret glove box area, I also used 3M black tape (looks alot like electrical tape) and blacked out my greenhouse trim all around. I think if youre going for the black out look dont forget to buy the smoked side marker covers for those annoying arch lights by the wheels.

Great Idea for the Cooper S emblem never thought of that

Are the side markers actually smoked or did you cover them with smoked film?

My wife picked up her SO Clubman S the other day and I really like the blacked out headlight housings.

Anyone know if a dealer will retrofit them?

Or sell the housings so I can retrofit them?

Rayzmini!!! I forgot who it was who gave me the inspiration to blacken my exhaust to complete the blackout look. I went ahead and had them powder coated from the rear of the muffler back. Viola...

Andy, they have before but in your case probably won't be cheap. A couple years ago there was a guy named Achilleshonor, or some such, who ordered a 2011 MCS with the black headlights. When it got off the boat it had normal headlights. He raises hell and they retrofitted them. So... They can. Will they in your case? Dealers can be funny about these things. Would they charge you boatloads of ducats? Awww hell yeah!!!

If I were going to do it, I'd try buying the parts (I use MINI of Atlanta/for R56) and install them myself or get a third party mechanic to do it (MUCH cheaper!!!)

Did you have much trouble taking the S off the trunk/hatch/boot? How did you do it? With heat?

Bill, there are a few options. Since my dad (MaacoDale) owns a body shop I got to learn a few tricks of the trade growing up. BTW, car paint fumes will always have a spot in my heart lol. One way you can do this is to use fishing line and pull it underneath the emblem. After the letters pop off you also have a few ways to get the adhesive off. Since Raggi is damn new the adhesive 'should' just peel right up. If not an easy way is to buy a small rubber wheel attachment for your drill, or use some goo gone. If you plan on putting the Cooper S emblem on again then I would recommend buying one from MINI, the letters are a pain to realign and i can tell that you're detail oriented enough to notice a crooked letter in the mix.

I took my cooper S off when the car was new. You need heat, a really hot day in the sun or a heat gun. Then you just use dental floss to slowly remove. After they are removed you will still see them even with a new car. Now you need a buffer and some good cleaner and wax. Just keep using your buffer and cleaner until you can't see the cooper s any longer and apply a good wax.

Thanks guys. I'm not a fan of the S emblem, so I'm not worried about saving it. I thought the heat might help and I will work on getting the S shadow off.

Finally a sunny day with temps in the mid 50's.

I took off the COOPER S badges today.

A little bit of dental floss, my fingers and a couple dabs of goo-gone..

That weight savings really made the roadster go faster...

10 minutes...

You'll break the dental floss half way through the letter. just pull it off with your fingers and when done use a little goo-gone and wipe dry...

very easy.

The newer the car the easier...
