So I finally received my Roadster on Monday and I've already logged 4 hours of top down driving. As it's really hot I've been driving top down, windows up to better direct the air conditioning (I know, it's indulgent!)

When I put the top up, the windows will automatically drop part way, once the top is finished closing, they stay down. so I'm manually having to close the windows which just seems terribly innefficient, especially considering that there's no auto-up feature. Am I doing something wrong or am I doomed to closing the windows every time?

No, I've got the same situation. Sadly, when you lower the top, the windows go down, but when you raise the top the windows stay down. :(

There's a trick... Keep holding the toggle for 5-10 seconds after your top completes opening.. You'll be happy to see what happens!

nfo - I tried this - will it work since the Roadster has a semi-automatic top as opposed to the fully automatic top in the other models? I have to reach up and manually lock the top. I'm going to run out to the garage and try it and see what happens...

Nope - no dice, this trick doesn't work on the r59 - I am guessing due to the fact there is no auto-up capability. Anyone know if there's an auto-up module out for the 2nd gens yet?

oh.. i miss read what you wanted to do.. i have a r59 too.. it works for the inverse, putting the top down and then the windows raise auto up if you keep holding the toggle.. What you want makes complete sense now that i think about it.. I guess i just typically drive with the windows down when the top is down..

This kind of inconsistent programming is a little irritating - if you get auto-down, wouldn't it follow that you should get auto-up? I hope that maybe there's a programming update/mod somewhere down the line.

I agree now that I have been driving around in my new Roadster for a couple of days now this is a little annoying. To make it worse the did away with the all windows up and down button I had on my 2011 convertible. You need to manually raise each window with the window up buttons. Dumb..

I came across this forum when searching the 'net' for someone else who is irritated by the roof/window situation in the Roadster.
I am from the UK and have one the pre-production manual top cars. I love it, really, really love it, but am becoming increasingly irritated by the windows. On mine, the windows do not drop down when opening the roof, but open automatically when closing the roof and remain open. I often find myself outside the car, ignition off, before I remember the windows need to be closed. Irritating to say the least. I would not be concerned if there was no communication between windows and roof but on a car that does most things for you, I think this is an oversight by Mini. My dealer agreed and spent 3 days trying to sort it out with Mini/BMW, only to be told on day 3 that it was doing what they all do. My next step is to write to someone 'at the top'. I've had convertables in the past - cars now considered to be 'classic' and when everything is manual you accept this without question. But this is a bit of a design fault on the Roadster I think . . .

This is what mine does too. I have to remember to put the roof up then close the windows before switching the engine off. A couple of times this has led me to leave the car out of gear with the handbrake off, luckily on the flat. It's a real pain, especially as it is very difficult to get into a state with the ignition (comfort access) where I have the accessories on but without the engine running, and still be able to operate the windows. Really annoying...

Just takes two taps of the START button, provided you

Manual car: DO NOT put the clutch in
Automatic: DO NOT put your foot on the brake

Viola, it won't start, and you can tap it twice and operate the windows/radio, etc.

But yeah, it's still a pain

I thought I'd tried that, but I'll give it another go. I would have thought that one push would be the moral equivalent of the "Accessories" position on a "real" key, but I guess that's too easy and obvious...

I was washing my wife's Clubman yesterday and I was trying to keep the radio on without the daytime running lights and the fan. If you just switch the radio on with nothing else on then you get a few minutes and it turns itself off.

Now you got me second guessing it, LOL. All I know is it takes two taps before I can use the garage door opener on the wife's 09....which is annoying. :-)

Agreed - definitely feels like a "flaw". I hope that MINI will listen and put out a fix!

I don't know if this is the reason with MINI, but many car brands don't have an auto up on the windows because of the potential of a child getting strangled by the window closing.

If you head to the Dragon in 2013, I think Way at Yay Motor Workks has the software to tweak the programming on the body module. I am not sure about the Coupe or Roadster as I was unabe to go last year. You may want to shoot him an email and ask.
