R59 DOS Intake, NM STB, NM Torque Arm Insert
DOS Intake, NM STB, NM Torque Arm Insert
Elphie II, my JCW Roadster has rolled over 1200 miles today, and I took the time to install her first mods that I got for my birthday last week. Here are a couple of pics and thoughts on each.
Next up is the NM Strut Tower Brace. While I know these are not really needed on the R56+ platform....considering the roadster is a vert it can't hurt! Plus I picked up the special RED one from Way Motor Works (also very nice to deal with) to match the red stripes. It looks awesome! I had some extra birthday money so I said "why not" :-) Can I tell a difference....not sure, I'll report back when I've taken her on some twisties!
Lastly was the NM Torque Arm Insert bushing. I have to say, considering this is so cheap and super easy to install, I would suggest this mod to EVERYONE with a new MINI. I have 0 negative to say about it. The car shifting and driving feels more, well, more secure and less "squishy". It's hard to really explain, just something you have to experience. But for the price, and it only takes about 20 minutes to install (10 of which is jacking the car up). Then you should DO IT!!!
If anyone has any questions for me, feel free to ask. I'm done with mods for the time being.....probably no more until Christmas :-)

Belated Happy Birthday!!! You just did three of the mods I'm sure I will be doing soon. Question, two actually, did the DOS CAI improve throttle response? How much louder is the intake over stock?
I was also looking at the "Red" NM strut brace from Way, who by the the way, is one of the best guys I have dealt with

Louder than stock, well, there's no hiding you have an intake. Clint has a new part that supposedly quiets it down if you don't like the sound. Personally I find it addicting
There's a youtube video out there of the intake, it's basically that loud if not a bit louder since the top will be down :-). Crusing along the highway it isn't really that much louder than stock, however, it's mostly just when you put your foot down. When you do that, you hear the sucking/whistling noise and then they awesome BOV/BPV. :-)
It did improve throttle response, car feels a bit "lighter" or "peppier".

I have the Dave F Hybrid CAI on my current R52(same idea as the DOS), and it released a crazy supercharger scream...which I love.-Steven
Liquid, did you do the drilling yourself for the CAI or did you buy one of their pre-drilled pieces?

Nice Roadster BTW
HAHA, she's always decided she wants a FMIC and Turbo-back exhaust for her birthday so she can flash a Stage 3 Alta tune on her 09 MCS. hahaha
Excellent wife and great Birthday! Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking the same thing. It'd be nice to have an intact part in case I ever needed to go back to stock! Lovin the DOS!
