Looks great. The blackout with blue works well. Just noticed that you went asymmetric with the side stripe...any particular reason?

I didn't want straight lines or checkerboard because I've used them on my last Roadster and on our first MINI in 2007...I had some MINIs with no side stripes.

My wife picked out the side stripes and she wanted to keep the JCW theme throughout the car...I thought the black looked better than the red and the shapes popped w/o being so loud.

Yes, it looks great. Was curious as to why on the passenger side only.

The funny thing is that my interior is Red & Black.

The chip guards are interesting. I've noticed a few recent forum contributors have installed them. Other than the aesthetics of the look, is there any practical reason for them? I've seen dozens of roadsters and hundreds of other MINI models without the guards, but I've never noticed stone chips in the lower front of the rear fender. I can understand the purpose of mud guards and front bug guards/protective film, but can't fathom why chips would occur often in that specific area.

Its gets chipped over time in that area. Like on the Porsche but not that wide of a body. Porsche has the same ones also.

I haven't seen any in that spot on my car, although I did fit the front mudflaps a couple of winters ago. The JCW sills around the fake vents are pretty beaten up though.

With the JCW exterior trim I've found this area behind the horizontal slats on the side skirts to be an order of magnitude more vulnerable to chipping than the quarter panel above it:

Anyone using Expel or some other clear shield in this spot?

Edit: I see spiney beat me to the punch again

Yep that area is pretty rocked chiped on my r58. And I have see chips on the rear quarter panel in front of the wheel, but not as bad as the lower JCW grille vent, thats for sure. Touch up paint pen fixes most of them and some people cut up lamin-X clear and apply it to that area to help.

Two 12" X 12" Universal Film - Clear

I've been wondering this as well, that particular spot takes a beating with winter salt.

With the link above enough to do both sides and the whole area around that grill / vent on the aero kit that gets beat up, its my to do list.

By far, the worst spot for damage.

I'll have to squat to my knees to see if I have rock chips there...and my magnifying glass.

With Midnight Black, MINI #1, no magnifying glass required. I can see them a block away.

Finally got to pick it up. Break-in drive home via the Angeles Crest Highway. Somehow, we were getting rain in SoCal in mid-June, so I got to practice putting the top up and down about a half-dozen times.
