R58 How much money off did you get from MSRP ?
I will most likely order a Coupe "s" whenever the dealer receive them here and I was wondering for those who ordered how much of a deal you guys got.
When I bought my Cooper in '05 I got $1,000 off the price, the demand will probably be strong on that one so I wonder how much they will take off to make sure I am a happy customers.

There are some older threads about this on NAM. But I got several $1000 off MSRP for my 2012 JCW so you can deal if there are several dealerships nearby. I dealt mostly with Sales Managers over email/phone and skipped the MAs. There were 8 dealerships within an hour or so from me. The "S" is less "rare" than JCWs I suppose, so I don't see why you can try to get under MSRP.
I traded my in 2006 MS convertible so for me the important thing was the trade in value. I shopped a few dealers and got the best trade in price. They threw in a $250 option at the end of the deal. I guess I could have pushed the price point but when I ordered my vert in 2006 it was a hot car and they weren't discounting. I heard from some NAM members that there are limited slots available and some dealers are charging a premium over MSRP. I don't know if that is true or not. I do believe that if you want an early Mini that you will be competing with dealer demos some they're may not be alot of open slots available
Check out PenFed. The build I did on a 2011 JCW was 2700 under MSRP. The way it works is you do their car purchse program and they send the order to a dealer in the program. They email you a price certificate and then you contact that dealer and work out the details. The dealer delivers for free. I am assuming the Coupe will be in th program.
Full Boat
I paid full boat for my Coupe. My dealer had to get a production slot from there other store. (They were out. The 2 Coupes they had on order for the store were sold right away, sight unseen like mine.) The dealer did not come out and say it in so many words but it sounds like there are only so many slots for the Coupe.
He also said that even the 2012 Cooper S are going to be hard to get with the automatic. Supply problems for the automatic transmission.
Maybe I'll get some free mats. That's what I got the last time. Paid full boat then as well.
I guess I gotta find a new dealer. I noticed they cashed my deposit check today but in turn I got my production number so I guess that's a good tradeoff. Now the excruciating wait starts.
Regards,
Pat

Our dealership is asking $2,000 over MSRP for the Coupe. I'm sure that they'll get it too (since they're a brand new model and have limited availability ATM). I remember back in 2004 when we were looking at a 05 MCS, they were asking nearly $3,000 over MSRP and getting it. Supply and demand I suppose.
I find it really hard to believe that any MINI dealership would be selling the Coupe below MSRP at this point (unless you're a repeat/preferred customer or something like that).
Lastly, it's probably harder to get a deal on an "S" Coupe or a JCW Coupe. The Justa Coupe will probably have better availability (i.e. less demand) IMHO.

Oh, and BTW, according to Motoringfile:
"Cosmopolitan floormats will be standard on all MINI models sold in the US."

"The base price for the (2012) R56/R55/R57 will all rise by $100 each, but will now include floor mats as standard."

See my post earlier in the thread. PenFed has a car buying program that gets you between Invoice and MSRP. It was avaialble for the Countryman back in April when they were order only so it may be avaialble on the Coupe later on or maybe now. I didn't find out about it until after we ordered the Countryman but it would have saved me 2500. I am a year away from replacing my MINI after it was totaled in a rollover so I have not checked it out yet. If you are close to ordering you may want to check it out
I responded he could get $$ off MSRP but never realized it was for a Coupe - duh.
Ya good luck getting a deal off MSRP for a Coupe.

Not exactly wheeling and dealing on the Coupe (and Countryman for that matter).
Like you I have a great relationship with my dealer. I choose not to take advantage of this. They offer me enough swag and other items to more than make up for the cost I pay for the car.
Remember the old time line that used to be in dealerships the one with Big Ben on it. Turns out that was mounted on four 4x8 sheets of metal. It now resides in my home office taking up an entire wall. I did not ask for this. They called me to offer it. Further, this is not even my original dealership. This dealership did not exist when I purchased my last MINI in 2005. For any of you purchasing your first MINI....keep a good relationship with your dealer and they will likely take care of you.

I have some original MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S banners. I didn't ask for them either. I only asked them that before throwing things away, please let me know and I might want them for my collection. They help my club and I try to promote them, a win for both sides.
This would make me do everything in my power not to have any dealings with this dealership ever again. It's one thing to sell a car right at MSRP, which is a tidy profit since they're still doing all the other things they can do to pad the margin (fees, warranties, etc.).
It's quite another to gouge folks with a 5% or 10% privilege fee to own a particular model or configuration that's hard to get. I know they have every right to charge the price the market will bear, but it rubs me the wrong way and would make me question every other dealing I had with them including service. Are you guys charging me $800 for this work because that's the price of premium service with you? Or are you charging me $800 for a $600 job because you can?
Given that dealers are already expensive places for service, parts, and accessories, knowing that a dealer was happy to gouge like that would really turn me off.
When I negotiated for my Countryman, they were charging MSRP, even though they had essentially ten of the last twelve or so in the state and production was at the peak of its backup. I probably would have walked if they had started out over MSRP, but the fact that they didn't try gave me a teeny bit more faith in the way they do business.
They did say, "we sell these at MSRP because the demand is so high," but even then, they came pretty far up on my trade-in (about 40%). And then I had my "rocks the rivals" coupon ready once we had settled on a figure, which was a bit of dirty negotiating on my part, but I was a motivated buyer—which is a crappy negotiating position—so I had to do something.
So my guess is that the more honest places will sell right MSRP for a while, unless demand is weak (unlikely). But going over MSRP is a red flag in my book.

....premium over MSRP?? <using my best Dana Carvy doing George Bush Sr voice>
"Nope, not gonna do it..."
Cincinnati MINI, to my best knowlege, never charged oer MSRP and I would not buy over te asking price which is sometimes border line crazy as it is. Idon't NEED the car that bad. I would wait for a year or so instead of being gouged. Yhe higt price we pay for impatience.

I've heard many dealers won't go below MSRP because MINIs in general just sell very well, so I was happy with our deal.
Here in the northeast, the avg used MINI was holding it's value too well to make sense buying a used one (good if you're trying to sell, bad if you're in the market to buy).
Ex. the best deal we found on a regular Cooper was an '07 with 60k miles on it for $16k.
The dealer wouldn't go a penny under and the car sold the next day! For $5k more could get a brand new 2012. And private owners were asking similar prices.
For most cars, buying used makes a lot of sense, but at least from what I've seen, a MINI isn't one of them.
Wow I paid $17k for my 07 MCS with Winter, Cold Weather, Sports, etc packages on it and 48k miles. Guess I got a steal on it being the original door card was in the glove box and read $26XXX as the original price.
And i purchased my car in 2010.
