Good on you.

That's the type of deal we were expecting to find, but were surprised to find that the MINI really holds it value. We've even seen 2009 R56's with over 20k miles going for nearly 19k! I can't imagine who wouldn't pay just a little more for brand new.

Some of this I am sure is related to one's geographic area, plus the local economy.

We were so glad we went with new - just couldn't see spending that much on a used car when brand new was not that much higher - plus the resale on a new 2012 will always be much higher than on the '07 we were contemplating, so for us, brand new was a win-win all the way.

You do realize that you just called everyone on this board who bought a new mini a moron?

Seems to me you should look in the mirror. I think you may find the biggest one looking at you!

I dont mind, I can clearly say I know better than to buy new unless I am buying something like an M series or a car of higher value than a MINI.

Its very easy to find great deals going through auctions, which my grand father owns about 6 car dealerships in Arizona and is very good at finding me cars way under price.

So yes I would say that if you want to buy new and take that hit great, but you will never get out of a car what you put into it.

Boosted - I used to have the same mentality that you are expressing in regards to buying new vs used cars. However as I grew older and have a little more disposable income I feel there is great value to treating yourself/spouse/or family member with a new vehicle. It may not be thrifty, but that is not my goal in an automobile purchase. And getting the money out of a car really depends on what you do to it and with it.

The thing that this thread started with: (are you going to get a discount from the sticker price?) pretty much answers some of the later questions about new vs used. The fact that you pretty much pay sticker with a Mini is what boosts the resale price later on ("pay more new, get more used"). That is what makes the Mini easier to guage in the resale market. Everyone pretty much paid sticker. That and the good gas mileage makes the resale price very stable, unlike the F150 where they might chop the new price by $6k and then gas prices dump the resale price down the drain.

Even when you buy used, your car will continue to depreciate.

That's great you have someone to hand pick auction vehicles for you - sorry no way I'm going to get involved in auction cars. I'm buying new this time. Other than the possibility of some hoonigan doing a burnout off the transport ship or truck upon delivery, it's got a clean history.

Why buy new for more expensive cars than MINIs?? Seems a little odd to me. The more expensive the car, the greater it depreciates, so better to buy used.

Anyways, back to the OP question - getting below MSRP will be harder with the Coupe as it is new. All the other models, even though MINI is doing well sales wise, you can likely get a half decent deal off MSRP. I didn't pay MSRP on my JCW hatch and there aren't that many sold up her in Canada.

But I would guess the vast majority of people will pay MSRP or something very close. Of course there are always exceptions.

I just don't have that kind of luck even with buying 2 cars in 2009 and being nice to the dealer body and might I add probably buying $2500.00 worth of clothing and accessories for my wife. But I did get free floor mats for each car so I guess I should be grateful.

My Coupe was completed today and is en route to the dock for shipment to California. I ordered in the beginning of August.
They actually won't be stateside until the first couple of weeks in October. But woo hooooo mine is done.

Dude you may get the first Coupe in the USA. I'll be in London end of the month, I emailed the factory to see if I could tour the Oxford plant, no reply yet. I'd love to see one then.

Yea the plant tour would be cool. I know of like 19 people on this forum that have Coupe's on order. Some from the East Coast. I think they will take delivery before me. But basically all of our cars, at least from this batch, will be completed within a weeks window or so.

No telling how many more are on order across the country and will be delivered shortly.

But your right this group will be the first to arrive in the US from normal production. That's kind of cool. We're the guinea pigs and will work out the kinks and bugs for the rest of the country.

Mine completed today as well and if all goes well will be on a ship to the East coast on the 17th of September arriving in Baltimore on the 27th. The dealer tells me 20 OCT at the "latest" for pick up. However, when I spoke with the sales manager last night we both agree that it will be sooner than that.

I have been a Mini owner for nine years. I asked for and got $750 off of MSRP.

Zyamfier, weren't you week 42 at one point?

As far as I can tell, I'm still set for week 42 build and my status is still On Order.

The dealership downtown near me still has a black/red JCW hatch in the showroom main window. Has been there since October. I guess not too many takers.

The dealer by me has a Blue/Black Coupe S thats been there since Mid Oct. They offered to work on the price for me if I was interested. (30 miles on it) It started out in the showroom and now sitting out on the lot. (Kinda off to the side) I wasn't a fan of the color or the options feels like others agree.

I test drove a black/red JCW at another lot in NorCal that just came in. That was nicely loaded, I do not imagine that one lasting too long. (It pretty much sealed my want for the JCW)
