Bummer of a day

In Columbus, OH for my military weekend, on my way to my grand daughters birthday party. No serious injuries (other than my heart ache), other driver at fault. Now it is wait and see with insurance.

Hopefully, insurance $$ will "iron" those wrinkles out. I feel your pain as others here likely do also. R58 coupe' being rare enough already.

Scheisse. Glad to learn that the Coupe did its job in keeping you intact, at least.

I am looking up parts today. I am using RealOEM.com but one diagram has parts listed but the numbers are gray and not available in the below description/part number, 3 & 4. Any ideas why/why not?

As I was inspecting the damage at home, I noticed this part was busted. I believe all the brown wires are ground but what is inside the busted plastic? BTW, this is the "worst" structural damage. The fender well will need replaced as well. Almost all of it is remove bolts and replace otherwise.

According to etk. # 2 design is what you have and you dont have 3 or 4.

BTW, here is a pic after we did our "NASCAR" repair to it in order to drive it home. Add a little Bear Bond and it is "track ready" other than being in limp mode :-(

My boost air duct is different or I cannot find it on RealOEM. It is the plastic piece between the two hoses.

Zoomed in there is a hole in the plastic

Here is RealOEM's pic

Its just a general pic on realoem. Same part. They like to reuse pics from the N14 engines.

Again, thanks so much! Trying to get a ballpark idea of cost of parts/labor. I feel insurance will want to total it, I don't want to. It drove fine for the two hour drive home other than limp mode (I hate not being able to go on demand). No steering wheel shimmy, let go of the steering wheel and it is same as before on speeds up to 80 MPH.

If I reply to one of the emails I have received from ECS, do you see it/receive it? If not, could you PM me an email address?

I have been building a parts list and wanted someone with knowledge to go over it to make sure there isn't anything obvious missing. I didn't add any fasteners, clips/bolts, just big ticket items. Just preparing myself with ammunition for when the insurance company tries to low ball me. I have screen shots of 24 Coupes for sale on line with year/mileage/$$$ for a "reasonable" replacement price if they total it.

Thanks

Cross post, might have a color match here. Some parts might be useful from this sad MINI:

Found out Monday the other driver didn't have any insurance listed on the police report. The officer telling me this tried to "calm" me by telling me that it could be that they just didn't have proof of insurance with them at the time. Knowing this immigrant group in Cbus, OH is historically known not to have insurance, I figure I am pretty much out of luck.

Did some research on realoem.com basically the majority of the front components are the same across all the R models 55 through 59. This helps with trying to find a donor vehicle at auction. Watched two go earlier this week for less than $2500. If I can get one in that price range I would be happy and just have the whole body repainted along with the new to me parts. This should give me all the major components and enough fasteners/bolts/odds & ends to do the job and possibly "recoup" (pun intended) some of my purchase price of the donor.

Will your insurance not cover some of it?

Nope. I do not carry full coverage on my older lower $$$ vehicles.

I do have uninsured motorist but found out that is bodily injury only. I did hear there is a uninsured motorist that replaces your vehicle and supposedly, it is very inexpensive. Too late for that though.

Ouch...it's unbelievable that it seems the people who try to do things right end up being the ones who are the losers in the end these days.

Toooooo frickin often.

Thing is it is a 12 year old vehicle with 89000 on it which puts it in the $8000-9000 value range pre-accident. I LOVE the dang thing so it is worth repairing to me if I can do so reasonably. I have to price what it will cost to have it painted, that might be the determining factor. I have a local guy that works dang affordable so if I can get it all done (donor & paint) for around 5K, I think I will. Otherwise, I found a 2013 JCW online that I really like.

Ya I hear you. We just bought a '12 JCW Coupe w/81k for $11k and we put full insurance on it. Thought about doing just liability, but I think the difference was negligible, so worth it for now.

It would be less hassle to find a replacement unfortunately 🙁

Either way, it gives me a "parts car" engine, tranny, footwell module etc that are known to have issues. I will survive the financial loss just irritates me down to my fiber of a being that people are out there that do not do as they should or "as required by law". Bad thing is, the law won't slam the crap out of them either. I don't even want to consider a law suit as I would have more in legal fees than I would get out of the explicative SOB's.

Hmm. From the photo it looks like most (if not all) of the pricey damage is limited to fender and hood, headlight, bumper and bumper cover, and maybe some twisted metal on the right front engine support member. It looks pretty doable to me, certainly within the price point of the resale value of the Coupe. One thing did catch my eye - the connector for the exhaust VANOS module looks like it popped off. Weird how that could've happened.

Situations like this warrant carrying full coverage, even on an older vehicle. If the car is worth $8-9k, even if it got totaled out by insurance, you’d be up $8-9k towards a replacement. Or at the least you would have the money to put into a rebuild. Just saying….
