I am thinking about spicing up my R58 with some bonnet and roof stripes. It is high class grey with black roof. I've been searching, and mostly what I see is either white, silver, or black stripes on grey cars. If I had to choose one of those, I would pick silver. However, I was hoping to find some pics with other colours on the grey, like blue or orange or something. Something spicy! It would be amazing if there was a configurator for this, same as TireRack does with wheels so you can get an idea of what it will look like.
This morning I put (most of - I'll get to that) the stripes on the MINI. First was a quick wash with dish soap to remove the wax, then into the garage. The application is simple. First, I ran a string from emblem to emblem across the top of the car to get a centre line. Then, you peel the backing off the stripe, and dose it liberally with a solution of 1L water with 2-3 drops of dish soap. This lets you lay the stripe, and still move it around freely. Once in place, squeegee out the water so the adhesive can stick. After a few hours, when things are dry, you peel off the transfer paper. That is what's shown in these pictures. The stripes pretty much match the Volcanic Orange colour MINI had a couple of years ago.
You will notice there is no stripe on the rooftop spoiler. That particular piece is the one the bottom of the hatch, under the licence plate. I used the wrong damn piece! And by the time I noticed, the glue was starting to set. I've sent an email off to the vendor in Germany to get another roof piece cut.
Other than that, it came pre-cut, and every piece fit exactly where is was *ahem* supposed to go. So far, with one stupid exception, I'm pleased.
