Help identify moulding issue above windshield

I noticed yesterday after our cold spell here that the upper moulding rubber came loose. I just don't know if it's normally attached to the glass or the moulding.

The car is under warranty so the dealer will fix but if they have to pull out the glass I would probably not have them do it. I looked at real OEM but can't tell from the pics where it's attached from.

Any body ever seen the glass and moldings out so I can decide. I attached a pic so you can see what I mean. There should be no body color seen (see arrow)

Thanks for any help

Yea, dont see a part for it , might be just installed with new glass , I have seen some R58 that had the glass replaced without it.

It's probably just like the Paceman and Countryman front glazing. With those models that trim comes already affixed to the new piece of glass, but as far as I know is available separately.

Hard to tell from photo with all the reflection, it is separating from the glass ?

But as far as I know, only replaced during installation process.

Funny that seal comes up for only R59 ? A R58 that I checked did not have that overlap seal, but had one under the glass that came with the new glass.

Has to be a film error. They make them for the R60 and R61, but do come attached to the top of the MINI glass.

Would think it would have to be available as non OEM glass may not have it.

Here is image for R59.

The metal top header strips for both models share part number...they also must share same top seal as well since glass for both models also the same.

I think it's a BMW error on film (#1 below is shared by both models)

Gray Raven - If you have an R58 or R59 on lot at the MINI dealership there , that would be great to compare. Seen the R58 windshield after the replacement and the seal is under , and does not come over the top of the glass, but is beside it.

Your car is under warranty. Don't worry and go to the dealership.

The dealer states that that rubber is attached to the back of the glass and not the moulding. Odd though too me as it seems kind of dainty to be attached to the glass and survive.

It is a matter for warranty BUT I have to ask if they do there own windshields in house or farm it out. 16 years In the car business and I don't want safe lite or a guy that works out of the back of a van re sealing a bonded windshield and having to deal with the potential he-said she- said finger pointing WHEN not if it leaks or damages mouldings etc.

Either way I may not have to deal with the issue much longer. I may just be getting a 2015 R58 JCW instead. Possibly one of the very last made. Woooooo. Produced 3/22/2015. We'll have to wait and see.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Looking back at your picture, it looks more as a QC issue and I would discuss with the dealer and make sure who will do the job.

I would not be in a hurry to trade the car for that issue unless you are already at the end of the maintenance program and expecting problems not covered by the warranty.

At my knowledge, there is nothing different from a 2013 and 2015 aside from the LED fog lights.

Not trading in Lucy per -say. Let's just leave it as an offer that the DEALER can't refuse. And car is only 8 warranty months old so it's fully covered still.

( I would never trade in a car because of a moulding BTW. That's just silly )

Led fog and automatic heat and ac + the benefit of all of the late production n18 upgrades. Oil pressure solenoid and engine harness and thermostat

You may love it to buy the same model again after only 8 months!!!!

I love mine but not to the point I would trade for a few more options. After all, it is exactly the same car with the same potential issues.

One thing I agree......... the manual A/C really sucks.
