Short Antenna?

Right now I have a Clubman, and I'm in the process of ordering a Coupe for my wife.

Short antenna option? Any experience with or thoughts on radio reception with the short antenna?

Thanks . . . Stu

I have a cool looking short one that was on the dealer's sticker at $300 (!!!). They threw it in. I had one on my other car that cost maybe $30.

I have the Craven Speed 4" Chubby on my Coupe and I am very happy. I already had one on my Fiat and their product is very high quality.

I paid for the original Mini-BMW antenna at the dealer 40$.When I read prices here for new gearboxes, water pumps etc I am very surprised. The new car prices are much lower then here in Europe but afterwards you pay an horrible price.

I had a Cravenspeed until some douchebag stole it from my car in an airport parking lot. I now have a GoBadges carbon fibre one, worth at least the equivalent of 5 horsepower due to the weight saving. I don't care about reception, the radio is never on in my car!

I just put the ALTA 2" on the car last night and for the most part the reception was the same. I drive 45 miles each way to work and listen to the same local morning show every day. With the normal antenna I would have a strong solid signal all the way to a certain exit every day and then start to loose it. With the stubby I got a couple spots of static in the valleys prior and then lost signal (to the point I don't want to hear static but still coming in) about a mile or 2 sooner than I normally do. That's my experience, IMO the MUCH better looks are acceptable for the minor lose of signal strength I experienced. Also if you are thinking about a 2" stubby I suggest ALTA over CravenSpeed simply because the base of the ALTA 2" is wider than the Craven and looks more "molded" to the car by taking up all the flat space under the antenna. No disrespect to Craven, love those guys and products, just on this one point and only the 2" (the 4" from both companies has a smaller base) I think the ALTA looks better.

The reception is the same and it cost only $20 instead of $40 for the Mini OEM.

Go on Craven Speed.com

Go to ECS Tuning website and search for shifters. You will see a few pictures. You can also have the emergency brake handle.

Appreciate the info. I'll look up the alta. Do you have a pic by chance on the car?

Regards.

I ordered the Craven Speed Stubby very specific for the Coupe because the antenna is on the right rear fender and not the same model as the one for the roof . It fits perfect with the base of the OEM long stem.

I don't see any problem that it would not have been designed to meet the standards to fit right.

Decided on the craven speed. Thanks for the input. Should be here in a couple of days and will post up a quick review.

Thanks again.

Hey Stu... I just brought the Craven Speed Stubby for my Clubman. I don't have any pictures of it at this time. As for the radio reception... I listen to an AM radio show on my way to work each morning and the reception that I get is the same as the "radio control car" looking OEM antenna. If I can remember to take a picture tomorrow, I will
