Renntech ECU Upgrade for R58 JCW Coupe

I just received the Renntech ECU upgrade for the R58 JCW Coupe. The website has the performance numbers at:

Stock Performance for Cooper JCW Mark2 (w/ N14B16 Turbo):
208 HP @ 6000 RPM / 207 TQ @ 1700-4500 RPM
Modified Performance:
248 HP @ 6000 RPM / 247 TQ @ 1700-4500 RPM

They are pretty accurate. I would recommend you guys check them out at renntechmercedes.com. There is a 10% discount through the 31st of May.

Hard to believe you can increase hp that much. Have you tried it? What happens to your warranty?

I've tried it. Much faster than before. Haven't dyno'd it yet. I believed the numbers to be correct. As far as warranty goes, I don't know. I'll be driving it as my daily driver. Hope all goes well and I won't run into any issues. I'll be keeping in close contact with Renntech if anything goes wrong.

1st your post looks and smells a little like a paid ad
2nd you have no actual data to support the claim
3rd you are a brand you member and poster and you first post is an AD!
4th I have personally seen RennTech tunes run on the Dyno and they were far from great, except in price at 1k$ a tune!

I personally think that RennTech makes some great stuff, but until you can post actual data and pricing please take your ads someplace else.

No need to be sorry, just post some stuff that does not look like a sales ad. Or maybe show us a dyno run that proves that the tune is worth the money.

The sad part is that Alta quit selling their tuner AP (made by Cobb).
I was lucky enough to buy one for my 2012 JCW Coupe when they were selling them.

With the linear throttle and no other engine mods (using a stage 1 JCW AP tune), it WOKE THIS CAR UP!!!! Driveability was increased dramatically!

On a cool day, I can spin these tires (Michelin Pilot Super Sports) in THIRD GEAR!!

While I have no idea how much power this actually added, it made the difference of a ho hum drive to a huge amount of FAST!!

I let off at 155mph on highway 71 west of Austin. It had more! This tuner removes the rev limiter as well as the top speed limiter. It also removes the trouble codes for O2 sensors.

I have now driven with this tune for a year and a half and will never remove it! I only have 7k miles on my car now in over two years, so I don't drive it a lot.

The Alta AP is worth every penny, if you can find one.

I'm sure other tunes like the one mentioned here would be equally awesome, again, if done right.

I got this tune about 5 months ago and now my car feels complete. Braman MINI wiped my it off of my computer but RENNtech set up an appointment and put it back on my computer in half an hour. To anyone that lives in the area and takes their car to Braman as well I would suggest only speaking to the advisor Kendra. She will actually return your calls and treats you with respect unlike the other guy(I forget his name). She told me they had to "update" my computer and I told her about my tune. She didn't give me any problems about my warranty but had me sign a piece of paper saying anything if I die from my computer it isn't their fault. Braman MINI might flash my computer a couple more times before my warranty is over and RENNtech said they would be happy to apply the tune again if needed. That's great customer service if you ask me. I even offered to display their RENNtech badge on the back I was so happy with them.

I had no tune for 4 days and I didn't even want to drive my car. With my mods my computer tops out at 132 mph. I talked to Lenny and he advised me to get a new turbo(JCW), or downpipe and exhaust to get more mph and power. When it isn't over 90 degrees outside I can spin tires in third I'll get to 132 faster than a JCW stock but not faster than a modified JCW. I've ran two JCW cooper R56's. They were stock.

So you have to go to some mechanic to install this, or does RennTech have their own tuning shops? I'm sure it voids your warranty if you blow some engine part/turbo part. Somebody said is cost $1,000 right? And why would the Mini dealer need to flash your computer every now and then? They never did my 2007 MCS.

I have had mine in since the car was new and no warranty issues. Remapping does not void the warranty. My dealer helped to remove the ECU and reinstall it for me.

What does an ECU consist of, a circuit board or software that reprograms the native ECU and removes the governors? Obviously it's the same pistons and same turbocharger and injectors.

They talk about it on Renntechs website

The ECU (Electronic Control Unit) is a computer with a lot of I/O circuits that it can talk to.
The Input is the position of the crankshaft and/or camshafts, the amount of fuel being used, and other sensors.
The outputs are the fuel injectors, turbo boost, sometimes the fuel pump, and sometimes the cam timing.
The cam timing, turbo boost, and fuel injector timing/duration can make a massive difference in power, but in the wrong hands these settings can blow up your engine in a hearbeat.

In the hands of careful planners, you can get a massive amount of power out of our tiny engines!

Fuel ratios, turbo boost limits, and on and on....

I love my JCW Mini Coupe with the Alta AP!!!

Best,
Kent

What does the tune do to your gas mileage?

I'm thinking it's not going to help. I imagine that the 3 different driving modes in the new F56 have to do with this too (Eco, Normal, Sport).

R56 driver here but with a Renntech tune. The tunes made no change in gas mileage during normal driving. In sport mode which activates the tune you will see a drop in mileage. Not due to the tune but due to the way you will drive it lol. I could swear that button alters the local gravity field around my right foot.

I reset my mileage estimator at every fillup.
When I drive easy (relatively), I get 28mpg with combined city/highway.

If I'm heavier footed, it can drop to 22-23.

Before the tune, I averaged 28 as well, so easier driving is the same for mine.
This is with the JCW.

I do not have an R56, but I found that my City Driving Mileage went down slightly (I am sure Right Foot Problem) and that Highway (using Cruise) actually went up about 1 mile per gallon.

As they say Your Mile May Vary.
