Shift **** for Coupe.

I had a Whalen shift **** in my '03 MCS and loved it. It really made a difference in shifting. Only down side was hot and cold weather (I'm no fan of the fabric covers).

Now I'm looking into ***** for a '13 Coupe. Whalen? TWM? I've searched the threads and looked at the websites and have some specific questions:

Anyone have the TWM Phantom? There are two weights listed; regular and RL Version. I don't see an explanation of RL.

What's the weight of the Whalen Steel ****?

How much weight should a custom **** have?

I understand that tastes differ. I'm more concerned with understanding some of the technical differences.

JCW carbon fiber **** is realllly nice!

Had the JCW tuning kit, JCW alcantara/suede steering wheel and JCW alcantara/carbon fiber shift **** installed a few months ago. You may want to consider the JCW ****. I too had a whalen on my 05 cooper S, and loved it. But I find I prefer the pistol grip styling of the JCW. Your hand just fits in the grooves perfectly - and it is really light. (looks sharp too!)

Never mind the last question; just found it on the MINIUSA site...$180. Anyone know what kind of weight they have?

Is the JCW **** weighted, or is it simply a matter of different design/shape?

not weighted - carbon fiber

It's very light in the hand. It is a distinctively different feel than a stock round **** or whalen shift machine. The whalen has a great beefy feel to it, the JCW makes my shifting seem very "light". It's hard to describe - bu t having it in the car for the past three months, I now prefer the feel to the stock shape. It has the grooves/indents on the front face that let you wrap your fingers around, or you can simply give it a light pull from the rounded top.

My advise would be try to see if the dealer has installed one on a car, or someone close by may have it in their car. You really can't appreciate it unless you see and feel it in action!

The JCW shift **** is phenomenal! Very high quality and very ergonomical. I definitely prefer it over anything else out there.

Also, don't spend $180 on it... ask your dealer to give you a discount. I did and got mine for $80.

Thanks. Did you order your car with it or was it a dealer-installed accessory?

Agree! Excellent shift ****. As for getting those sorts of things for a decent price. Go to SewellParts.com, create an account and add your NAM (or the other site) info and end up with year round excellent deals. In some cases hundreds off. Sewell also advertises here in the vendor forum and often has discount codes available to go along with your NAM discount.

M7 one is nice, got it for like 60 bucks.

Though it is smaller then the OEM one...but I actually like the feel of it. You can easily wrap your entire hand around it, really get to feel the syncros and gates.

I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I have the stock **** and decided to drive it for awhile before placing an order.

Try Sparco, had a weighted one on my R53 and took it off when I sold

that car. It's on my JCW now.

whalen, probably weights around 1.3~1.5 lbs?
i purchased whalen even before my car arrived. imho, its not really an awe-inspiring upgrade.
i do have tendency to get lazy while driving and habit of not pushing the gear in all the way (causing grind or pop-out during shifting).
getting whalen didnt 100% fixed that issue but probably happens less.

That is a great shift ****. BTW , the GP one we have include the chrome bottom trim. Early pictures of the GP 2 shift **** showed the bottom was silver. They must have changed it mid cycle in development.

Here are some more pictures of the JCW GP 2 Shift **** w/ Boot
