R58 Coolant Temp Sensor service bulletin
Coolant Temp Sensor service bulletin
I just had my Coupe in for the coolant temp sensor recall issue. I got a good detailed description of the reason for the recall and what the fix was. The original T-stat in the Coupe and other MINIs had the coolant temp sensor integrated with it. This sensor was giving some false signals to the computer causing numerous different errors along with possibly causing the fan to run for an extended time after the engine was shut off. The fix was to install a new coolant hose with a fitting that has a new separate coolant sensor. Then a new wiring connector was included that had the two wires for the T-Stat separate from the two wires for the coolant sensor which then went to the new sensor. Hope that helps everyone understand the issue.
Mine gets replaced on Monday. My Scangauge has been throwing temps all over the place from the normal 227 degrees to 238 and down to 218 degrees. I knew something was malfunctioning and now I have the answer. thanks

Ya no notice for me as of yet either. I left a message with one of my friends who works at MINI to check into it for me. Thanks for the details on what's occurring! Really appreciate it.
On second thought maybe I'll just sell my Coupe and go by a FIAT due to that awesome ad for the FIAT 500 on our forum page. I mean seriously?

I emailed my SA with my car's VIN and she is included in the recall... 2011 MCa. So yes, it applies to Justas too. Looks like it applies to ALL models within the time frame, but I don't know for sure what the time frame is. Best thing to do is to have your VIN ready and call or email your local SA. The letters probably are in the process right now, this is very recent and the dealerships needed to have some replacements on hand before the tsunami of MINIs came rolling in.
I'm going in next Tuesday.

When I took my MINI in for routine service, I mentioned that my ScanGauge was showing temperatures approximately 20F lower than when the car was new. My dealer replaced the coolant sensor. I mentioned that I had not received notice of any recalls. The dealer said they are just starting to send them out. After this change, my coolant temperature is running around 220F max. like when new.

It's not a recall therefore you won't get a notice. It's merely an upgrade that they will perform if/when you have your car in for service or another issue. I suggest that you call your SA, provide your VIN and see if you are eligible for the upgrade.
my dad's 09/2011 build 2012 cms all4 auto was included,
my 03/2012 build 2012 cms all4 manual was included
another poster said his 04/2012 build was not included
