R58 Black out the Chrome
Black out the Chrome
Hey so technically this is my first post and mini
(Mini Coupe S Lighting Blue, Black Roof and stripes). On to the question - I keep seeing Coupe's with blacked out chrome and I was wondering how you guys were doing it? I have read about wrapping and something called Plasti Dip but thought I would ask. To buy the accessories is crazy expensive even though I would love the carbon fiber parts. So what say you?

I'm half way through blacking out my all-black Coupe. Welcome to MINIverse!
You can get the beltline tape from Outmotoring.com. Very easy to do.
Here's a list of retailers for accessories, etc. It might help you. A lot is local to Philly but many are popular online retailers.

Plasitdip is nice but peels after a while. Not a bad option if you don't mind doing it again in a few years. Also, it's not permanent so you can always change your mind! Google for retailers. Napa carries it and Home Depot has it. At least the one near me does.
I'm doing a combination. Buying new scuttles and the JCW grille. Wrapping the tail and head light surround. I already had handle covers from the now-defunct Aesthetic Creations that I took off my R53. Have fun with it and post some pics!

I looked on their website and they dont list the R58, did you just contact them? Do you send off your parts and let them vinyl them and send them back? I want everything done, the grill surround, headlights, taillights, door handles and side scuttles.....and around windows
when mine gets here I'm going to do all the chrome, I have ordered the tape to do the belt line chrome, the rest I'm going to paint to match the body color (midnight black) I have the primer/base/clear so I'm gonna scuff them up with a scotchbrite pad and then shoot them...
VX crazy, I bought the black grill surround from the dealer(I think that
2010-2011 JCW's came with it black not chrome) anyway it fit perfectly.
I also bought the headlight/tailight trim, door handles before the car was
built and had VinylStyles wrap them, so everything was ready when the
car arrived at the dealer. Just call Lyle he is easy to work with.
