No Hole Front Licence Plate Bracket

Does anyone know which no holes front license plate bracket will work for our cars? Is a different bracket used for the S versus the JCW for instance.

I see several available but it appears that the old one off my R56 is not deep enough. Haven't checked it out completely yet. Does anyone have a verified solution for this?

Thanks

Pat, I believe the last one I made in order to fit the JCW need 3/4 inch longer.

Not sure what you are saying John? Are you saying the one you bought was too short by 3/4 inch?

That's what I am afraid of. I need to put one on the front but I do not want to drill the bumper at all.

I was hoping someone had a solution that would work for the 2012 JCW Coupe.

Hummmm what to do?

You are correct...I got the Cooper S mount for my JCW and the plate edge sets to close to the bumper. Pretty sure just a few black washers stacked with a longer bolt on the mount will fix the problem.

Thanks.

I may be forced to do that. We are required to have a front plate in Washington. Unfortunately.

You might call Kellen at Craven Speed just to see. I have not called yet as I have been busy for the last few days on tour with the WhiteRoofRadio boys in Detroit. I will be calling him tomorrow to see what he thinks and can get back to you.
Nebraska requires a front plate as well. Damed it I am going to use that worthless piece of plastic that comes with the car.

At least you got the plastic. I didn't even get one both my car. Probably because I told them not to install it because I won't use it anyway.

Sounds good. I will wait to see what you find out at Craven.

Funny you say that Pat as I told the dealer the same thing. Only time the car will see a front plate for me is extended trips. Outside of that since no front plate is not a primary offense I am more than willing to risk it in Washington State as it really is not attractive on the front of the car.

I've thought about the doing the same thing but I just hate tempting fate. So I will look for a solution and therefore eliminate that worry.

I used a screw in bracket that goes into the front tow loop on my GP when needed. Would assume a similar option would work for the Coupe. Either way as I keep my fun driving where it belongs I just don't give them a chance to detain me for a primary offense and if so its only $212 which for me is a small price for a less ugly car heh.

That was my thought process as well. But as I understand it using that particular fix will not work because the bolt used to thread in the hole is 3/4 of an inch too short.

Pat the one I just made for SMOG was short we re did it to fit the aero package and I have a new plate frame that fits nicely to the new bumper. Don't drill, Let me know how short your old bolt is and which one you have and lets see if we can make it work, if not I can fix it for you to fit.

MSchiml (Re-striped my coupe) did this mod the other day and I think he got it to work with a larger bolt. He explained he had a similar problem when I called and spoke with him. Hopefully he will chime in and give his advice. Or PM him.

Don't have an old bolt at all. I had the type that just slipped into the lower louvers. It then had another piece that screwed on to the piece that connected on the louvers. Hard to describe. But I did not have the type that went into the tow hook hole. I'm not going to drill the bumper. There has to be a way.

I don't think that would work. The car has the mini splitter on the front which makes it difficult to install plus the fact that the car is so low now. With that I think the clearance would be even less.

I'm not saying it won't work but I'm not too keen on that solution. I really would like something that goes into the front tow hook. I think that is the best solution.

if you have the craven bracket, it has different hole mount locations, I had to play around with which hole to use to make sure it did not fit too close to the bumper. In the end I did find the right hole however, I took it off as it just didn't look right mounted. Will have to take my chances!

I have spoke with Kellen. He is working on a fix for the issue of the bar being too short. For now I just went out and purchased a stainless steel bolt 3/4" longer and a couple extra nuts (10mm 150 pitch) and presto extension made.

I just machined a few spacers for a couple of friends in loo of nuts. But that works, if you have access to a brake you can put a little bend in the plate to fit the front better.

I wonder how long it will be before the fix is in place? Did Kellen give you any indication? I need to buy the complete set up. I had a different style that will not work on this car at all so I will buy this type set up.
