Well as some of you know from facebook. I went out yesterday morning and shot some pictures of NAPALM. I think I picked the perfect name for this Coupe as the sky was on fire!

I like the ooligan license plate... but why did you put the name of a fish? ;-) Hoonigan would not fit?

I'm still not a fan of the Coupe in pics, but I bet it looks pretty great in person.

 

Nice pix. That's a cool body style IMO. I'm not normally a fan of black wheels but those look super with the red calipers. I have a question. That's obviously a JCW (which includes the aero kit). Because you have all black does that mean they don't paint the wheel arches? Because your wheel arches look stock to me, not sanded and painted. I thought they were supposed to add finish to the the wheel arches with the aero kit. That's always been a question I had (the wheel arch thing). Nice car.

 

The JCW Aero has unpainted wheel arches which IMO suits the style of the MINI.

You are thinking of the unpopular and by some, hated , none-JCW "Aero" kit that had the painted wheel arches that MINI has apparently discontinued.

Nope, I was born in 67. When I was active duty army there was a guy with a 69 camaro that was painted flat black with a rattle can.....his plate was NAPALM.

I find myself looking at those photos every day over on Google+. I hope my girlfriend can get similar shots of my Coupe when it arrives.

 

Those were lucky shots. Just got lucky that morning. Usually I go out and something does not work, rain, wind, psyco donkeys what have you. Good luck when you go out to shoot.

What's that screen showing on the speedo (it doesn't look like the nav)? Did you get the nav?

 

The screen doesn't only show NAV.

It shows radio/music/car settings/main menu for all of these and of course MINI Connected.

 

Great pictures! If you get the chance to try it again, I'd suggest putting in +1.0 to +1.5 eV of exposure compensation to try to bring out a little more detail in the car itself. Your camera looked at the scene and metered for the sky, which left the shadows and the car a little underexposed.

Please don't take this as anything other than a constructive suggestion - this is a subject that has become near and dear to my heart recently since I've begun shooting slide film again after a 25-year hiatus. My old Nikon only has a spot meter, so it's very important to choose what part of the scene to meter, and adjust exposure compensation as necessary.

 

Thanks Scott. Still learning how to shoot. The last camera I used well was my old Minolta x-370 film camera from school. I will get there someday with yours and and others help.

 

Modern cameras can actually make things a little bit harder because you never know what part of the scene the meter is using to determine exposure (in addition to my old Nikon film cameras, I also have a D50 and D7000). Fortunately, they *usually* make the right choice after examining the entire scene. But sometimes if it's a tricky scene, you can be better off putting the camera in spot-metering mode and choosing what part of the scene to meter yourself, and then making the appropriate exposure correction.

 

So the Mini Connected feature/option doesn't require one to order the NAV. I get that you can control music and your phone (and I know there's a forum about this)and get the car information. But what does it "connect" to? And does it only do music on the screen with artwork with an iPhone? I don't want the Nav, but I may want this.

You can also search YouTube for MINI Connected and get several nice videos showing the system and what it can do.

The dealer had one car on the lot with it when I was there last weekend to order my Coupe so I got a hands on demo. Without a phone connected it will basically run the audio system, give you car info and allow you to make certain settings. It has Bluetooth so (if your phone is supported) it will import your contacts/phonebook and of course allow you to receive and make phone calls. There is a USB input to which you can connect a USB memory stick with audio files and it controls that of course as part of the audio system. It also has voice commands for lots of things. You can tell it which radio station you want for example and it will tune it for you.

Not sure about the cover art question. But it will display the tag info from your audio files as long as they are in a supported language.

It's pretty cool, IMHO. And I like the way it looks a million times better than the regular speedometer. I sprang for the technology package to get it. No nav for me as I have a nice Garmin already

Yes you can get MINI Connected without NAV. On the 2012 models it is $2000 instead of $2750. And yes it comes with the screen/LCD.

MINI Connected is a option that allows you to hook your car to an iPhone and use an app on your iPhone to do various features. Check Facebook, Twitter, News RSS Feeds, Listen to internet radio, etc. It also has some unique options like "MINImalism" which is a mini game on your car that allows you to help conserve gas and drive the proper/correct way to do so. There is also Mission Control in which the car talks to you as you are driving and other things. MINI Connected also supports Pandora radio and allows you to play it on the screen and it will show cover/album art for the song you are listening to on the screen.

MINI Connected has a plug in feature that works with the iPhone and allows you to use an interface similar to the iPhone for searching music and playlists and using the Genius functionality.

You need an iPhone to use MINI Connected. You can still get album artwork without MINI Connected and with an iPhone as it has another way to display cover art. Android phones unfortunately do not work with the album cover art. You can connect via bluetooth from an android phone and/or AUX and get your music in the car. With Bluetooth it still shows album name and artist but not the cover art.
