R57 Headlight Bulb Recommendations
Headlight Bulb Recommendations
Greetings R57 people! I have recently graduating from an elderly "Justa" R52 to an R57S which is a lot of fun, but having had the HID Xenons on my 2005 Mini I am finding the regular lights on my R57 somewhat underwhelming. I figure that as the bulbs are who knows how old, maybe its just a question of putting new bulbs in.
Do the stock lights really suck, or will this make a (ahem) night and day difference? Second, should I pony up the extra cash for the more expensive options out there like the Sylvania Ultravisions or even the HXE "xenon" type. Anyone had any luck with plug in LED replacement bulbs?
Not looking to change out the housings or do any major rewiring at this point. Any recomendations? Cheers!

The non-HIDs lights don't suck.
It is more accurate to say, the non-HIDs lights REALLY REALLY SUCK!
That said, the Philips Extreme Vision 9008 will be a bit better than an off the shelf, cheapo bulb. Prepare yourself to be somewhat less underwhelmed.
I have found that even the best incandescent bulb have badly erroded filaments after two years. Light output drops sharply once that occurs.
Inspect the headlight "glass" for yellowing and hazing, if either are present consider replacing the entire assembly.
There are also the options of adding driving lights.
Not sure what you mean by "HXE "xenon""

Thanks, hard to compete with the HID projectors I guess. I got some PIAA Extreme White Hybrids, they seem a lot better than the Sylvanias that were in there, no doubt helped by the fact that both bulbs are now anchored in the correct spot rather than one rattling around loose in the housing
, and that the aim has been adjusted out further into the distance. I cleaned up the hazy lenses with a polishing kit and can live with them for now.
Sorry, typo. ZXE Xenon is the primo and pricey Sylvania bulb that claims to have HID like performance in a regular light fitting. Sylvania in the past for me have overpromised and underdelivered. The PIAA bulbs get mostly positive reviews, so I figure I'll give it a go, cant make them any worst.
