Halogen replacement bulbs?

Any opinions on replacement bulbs for halogen lights? I put a set of PIAA bulbs in last year, and one of them burned out. It did seem to give a whiter light which was an improvement over the stock bulb. But I figured that I would ask opinions before shelling out $70 for another pair of these bulbs. I understand that the plug-in HID conversions are not a good option, and it doesn't seem worth it to me to put hundreds into the factory bi-xenon setup.

I figure tomorrow morning I will see if I can tell the difference between one OEM headlight bulb and a PIAA....

Thanks for any comments...

Mike

I ran some Philips Xtreme or something like that for a while. Didn't really think there was that much of a difference.

Not to hijack your thread, but I'd be interested in learning why these are being ruled out. I've used HID conversions on my BMW motorcycle, my Mazda 5, and a friend's Ford Escape; all were great upgrades, didn't have beam cutoff issues/blinding traffic problems.

Is there a MINI-particular reason that HID conversions aren't a good thing?

I had PIAA bulbs in my charger and when one burnt out the place I bought them from warrantied them and I got a replacement set. You might want to see if they will do the same.
