R57 Convertible top problems??
Well one of my so called normal fold spots seems to be wearing through the 2nd layer of the cloth. I called the dealer and they are going to have the shop formen and the service mgr insepct the top next wenesday. The sa said if the cloth is wearing through we would love to replace it for you. I have 2 shiney spots on each side of the rear windows plus a hole to the second layer next to the spots. Also around the rear window the seam is starting to wear down pretty bad. I also have to spots on the edge trim above the rear windows on both sides that have a slight gouge. I will keep you all posted.
I had mine replaced after the first 18 months of ownership. At the time, I only had 200 hrs of topdown driving. That meant I was closing the top every night after work and opening the top any time I could drive that way...gloves, hats, scarfs, etc...lol. Dealer had to do the same, get the shop mgr and service rep to agree. I was lucky that the service rep at the time was all about customer service. As soon as he saw the indentations he agreed mine needed a new top.
The replacement top seems slightly thicker. But time will tell.

This was covered under warranty. No issues with that at all, but MINI USA had to approve the replacement. U would think by now, the dealers can make this decision without waiting for approval from HQ.
I have about 80 hrs on that handy little gauge.
Derepente,
Good question and since my '09 in in the trailer under cover for the winter I can't check the meter but I think < 200 hours. I plan to keep that top and replace it at month 47 under warranty as the wear spot isn't through the outer layer yet.
My '10 had the top replaced already with more hours but probably < 300. That car isn't stored so I can check and post later.

They may well be thicker material, and my SA thought the same, but for the chocolate and denim tops I believe they are the same. My denim top with less than 10 cycles after replacement is starting to show the same abrasion wear spot on the back driver's side. At the end of the day the seam is wearing through the top, more so on the driver's side for some reason. My SA was clear that tops are covered under the 4 year warranty period.

Take pictures, time and date stamped before you drop it off. They did a great job with the top install but the installer must have been a gorilla. I had scratches and a few dents and nicks, including one large dent that looked like he leaned over the quarter panel. I had the pictures and my SA knows how immaculate I keep my cars. No questions asked they repaired all the damage as soon as I took out my camera and gave me a free loaner to boot.
Got her back today no scratches and no dents. The top is much tigther then the first top. Around the sunroof in the center of the top there 3 small waves that need to smoth out but they are no big deal. I have the car out in the sun, 71 today dealer told me to leave top up for a week to stretch it out over the frame. The dealer was very helpful in getting the top replaced trough the factory.
Joining in the fun
I also had my top replaced after 3 wear spots appeared and had gone down to 2nd layer of cloth (wish I'd spoken up when I had only 1 wear spot worn though about a year ago).
No fuss from the dealership and for them, a rather speedy turnaround - had car back in a week.
All covered under warranty, told that I have a 2 year unlimited mileage coverage on the replacement top.
Dealer said the back bumper seal was misaligned. Also told me not to put top down for 3 days for it to stretch out

My 3 wave spots/humps in the sunroof are still there. If i open the sunroof or put the top down they get about 75% better but they come back after a while. Dont know if i should live wit this or go back to the dealer. the whole top is tighter and has much less rattles then the old top plus it seems thicker.
These were mine about a year ago. Fast forward a little while and the ones on the edge had worn through.
So - 2 years of moderate use.

Hello All,
I have a 2010 convertible that we just bought as a MINI next. We have only had it a couple of weeks, but I just noticed that the top seems a little slack (slightly indented) towards the back on the passenger side. It doesn't look like any of the pictures that I have seen, but there is an ever so slight separation between the car and the top. I have never owned a convertible before so I don't know how tight the top is supposed to be next to the car. I did look in the interior and I don't feel anything wet although, I am sure water must be dripping in there a little bit. Is this normal?
