17" Black star bullet wheels

I would like to see some more detailed pictures of these wheels, if anyone has gotten some good images of them.

I have a feeling I might break down and buy these OEM wheels instead of getting some lightweight aftermarkets just because they look so good!

Pic for reference:

Up close shots, in better light, especially on a chili red would make me very happy. Thanks!

The main thing to know is that these wheels are a very dark grey, not really black. I though they were black at first. I saw them up close at the local auto show. I believe I have pictures at home and will post if I do.

This is the most detailed picture I've seen. This was taken from a previous post on this forum from "diablito".

The post is here : https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ds-on-r57.html
The actual picture is here:

I've been contemplating getting a set of these as well, to use as my winter wheels. Currently I'm using S-Lites for that purpose and I hate how heavy they are (even though that theoretically might make them more durable).

I think these would be a great replacement for my winter S-Lites, because they not only look far better, but they are significantly lighter as well (I'm of course assuming the weight will be very similar to the R91s, which are one of the lightest 17" wheels that MINI sells, at 20.6 lbs).

i love my rims.... sorry i do not have an up close pic, but they are very dark grey, and not black; but its hard to tell unless youre right up on them.

whoever says they dont get dirty lies i just had to clean mine last night, didnt realize in comparison to the back how much the break dust was covering the silver lining.

Swooper.... ditch the OEM brake pads. Really. Best thing I ever did...

I love my 1st gen R91 bullets - I own two sets of them (summer and winter) - they are significantly lighter than some of the OEM wheels (though still not "lightweight" by any stretch)...but the best thing about these wheels is how easy they are to clean compared to most... and (with proper brake pads) how easy they are to keep clean - very easy to QD and wipe down... no nooks and crannies - and easy to use a tool like the Griot's wheel stick to get the inside areas clean when you wash...

All that said... I AM going to finally buy some 15lb track wheels when I get some bills paid...

I saw these wheels for the first time last Saturday at the dealer - they were on the new R57 we test drove.

I did not care for them in the photos I saw before the R57 launch, but seen first-hand they look great!!!

As mentioned above they are dark gray, not black. They fit the character of the MINI well and offer more aggressive appearance.

VERY NICE OEM Wheel!!!

Reminds me of the wheels that were on the '69-72 Olds Cutlass Supreme, wonder if the dark gray could be painted same as body color?

Black Star Bullet pics and a black crown spoke photo

You can see that the matt black is painted into the wheel as well. Also, it's considerably different from the black crown spokes on display. The Bullets match the wheel arches it seems. And you can see the balance weights on the wheels in the photo. I ordered these for my r57, but I wonder how long before the paint on the rims starts to chip?

Wonder if the alloy cleaner I use now would be too harsh on these? Macquires wheel cleaner.

Thanks for the pic!

I don't know about the wheel cleaner. I usually soap them good, and then apply a wheel wax to make getting brake dust off a quicker and easier task.

Thanks Accordselux, I like that suggestion. I'll try looking for wheel wax once we are back in the USA with our MINI.

Chipping shouldn't be different from silver wheels (which are also painted) although of course chips would show more in black. The 4 spoke GP wheels also have matte black paint. You could ask in the GP forum about their durability.

I saw them, up close and personal, yesterday. IMO, picture is better than reality.

Has anyone tried a set of these with the JCW Brembo BBK? If so, did you need a spacer, what size?

Thanks

There's only a few dozen of us who have actually picked up our R57s, and I don't think any of us have done major upgrades after receiving our Convertibles, but you never know.

I recall reading somewhere that the JCW Brake Kit can only fit with certain rims options, but I never found a list of which rims would work. I guess that's where your spacers come into place.

The cross spoke, challenge spoke and crown spoke are the only OEM wheels that will clear the factory JCW brakes.

Edit.
The five star bullets will also fit.
