Punched Leather vs. Lounge Leather?

Hello All,

This is my first post. I am getting close to pulling the trigger on a new 07 MCS and I can't decide between the Carbon black Punched leather and the Lounge leather. Any body seen any differences between the two in terms of comfort and durability?

Pictues of the puched leather would certainly help.

Thanks.

I think the lounge leather has more cushion. Also, it has vertical piping along the back and on the seat. I think the punch leather is just a straight flat surface.

The interior pictures thread, https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...erior+pictures, has a few pics but overall they aren't the best to judge the leather.

The lounge leather looks more upscale from my perspective.

I read in several reviews that if you are upgrading to leather it is well worth it to go with the lounge leather because the seats are much more comfortable and rich feeling.

-*Disclaimer*- I opted for the red lounge leather myself.

I've seen and sat on both. The punch leather is sort of like the seats on the Honda S2000, which isn't bad, but the leather quality is just OK. The lounge leather is VERY nice, seats are more plush, and the leather is very soft. Almost as good as the Napa leather in my old Audi. We ordered the Lounge Leather in black.

I went with the punched leather and am happy with it. I've seen the lounge leather in person, but didn't get to try it. It looked softer, but less durable. My main decision point was that I didn't like the piping, but that's just me.

if you can afford it, there're very few cars out there where you can get upholstery as beautiful and classic as the lounge leather, especially in redwood red. so i say go for the lounge

Thanks for all the great feedback!

I was leaning toward the lounge leather but I had a concern about the the durability over time. I have already had to replace the seat leather in my Infiniti FX because it stetched out over time (3 yrs) and bubbled This was a know problem and the dealer replaced it. Any reports of that kind of thing happening with the lounge leather?

I looked carefully at each as I was leaning towards leather. I think the red lounge leather looks good, but didn't think it would go well with my Pure Silver/Piano Black MCS.

The black punch leather looked like the leatherette seats. It did not look more durable than the lounge lizard, but that's just an impression.

I was already to order the black lounge lizard, until I saw it. The white piping killed it for me. Makes an elegant retro/nostalgia seat look like it belonged on a Disneyland ride. Apologies to those who have it and like it, but that was my impression.

The red is not so damaged by its piping color and remind me of a friend's mid 1960's Jag. If I'd picked a different body color, I would have gone for the red lizard, but ended up ordering cloth.

Carbon Punched here. The Lounge leather's white piping just doesn't cut it for me.

All leather covers are not equal. My 2000 Audi A6 leather seats still look almost new. 2006 Volvo S6 R leather bolsters have lost much of their color. MINI R56 Redwood Lounge leather-who knows?

I love my wife . . . lounge leather for her. As for me, I can't always remember not to put the screwdriver in my back pocket . . . .

We were going for the punch leather when by accident we sat in the Lounge leather (didn't even know it was a big deal option).

This was a test drive (4th time) and this dealer happened to have a auto S that my wife could drive. While sitting in the pass seat I was thinking, "Man these seats are more comfortable than our Grand Cherokee that's weird. I don't remember the Mini seats being so comfortable"

We we got out I mentioned this and the MA explained the lounge leather we were sitting in. After that we sat in all the optional seats and there was no comparison. We ordered the lounge leather.

The piping pisses me off also as it only makes sense with a black and white interior. I plan on having the piping dyed once we get the car. How stupid to offer contrasting piping in ONE color only. That's the only dumb thing I saw on the car.

The durability question is still very much up in the air since the car is so new. Based on past precedent, I'd guess that the leatherette would be the longest lasting and easiest to maintain, followed by the cloth. The two leathers...who knows? Just go with the one you like best.

Needs another look

Thanks again for the all the opinions on this very personal subject. Based on all your great feedback I will have to head back to the local dealer and take another look at the two all leather options.

This is a great excuse for another test drive .

I'll let you all know what I finally decide on.

J

I want lumbar and the leathette and cloth options don't offer include it. I like the idea of dying the piping.

Welcome to NAM Celljay. When my dealer showed me the samples I had asked myself the same question as far as durability because the lounge leather felt so soft. I since have tried both and I am not worried about durability. So try it for yourself. The rest is about style and that is very personal. The punched leather is sportier and the lounge leather is definitely retro and adds more luxury to the car. By the way, you cannot really go wrong.

Pierre.

P.S. For me I would go with the lounge leather in a heartbeat!

Those were my thoughts and the reason I decided on...
