Should I cancel my 2007 order and wait for the 2008 car??

Dear Everyone,

So far I am agonizing for my ordered 2007 MCS. I order it last March 26 and up to now is still Status 112 according to my MA. I am not too positive anymore to get the car next month (May) and most likely in the month of June in which I can say my "baby" is already 6 months older already.

I am thinking of cancelling my order and instead I will make a new "order"
in month of August for the 2008 model year.

The only benefit of getting of having the 2007 model is I will enjoy her this summer up to fall.

While the 2008 model I will enjoy during the fall; then wait for the next year's spring and so on.

Any advice I highly appreciates it. Thank you.

Up to you, but check my dates in my sig.

I look at it this way. I am probably halfway to my new one and I really do not want to start over. It has been terribly hard on my Wife. With all the whining, worrying, nail-biting, and general depression I have been going through, she catches the brunt of it.

She is a good egg. I can't do that to her again. Besides, if I told her I was cancelling and waiting to order in a few more months. She'd kill me.

Are you sure the 2008 will come out in August? If so, I'd be tempted to wait. The only thing is, chances you wouldn't be able to order it 'til August which would probably mean November delivery.

I have the same problem with computers and audio/video equipment. It's always better to wait a little longer. In the mean time I live with what I have (miss out on the good stuff while I wait). The problem is, by the time to purchase comes up, a good reason to wait even longer surfaces.

If it means that the value of your MINI will be dropping then read my brief story. I ordered a 2003 MINI MCS in June 03 it arrived at the dealership at the end of Sept 03 just when the 04's were arriving. Now, the 04s and 03s are virtually clones. Did this affect my trade in today on an 07. Not really because its the miles you put on a car that have the biggest impact between any two years. Go to Edmunds and price out an 03 vs 04 with the 04 having 50k while the 03 has 35k.

We won't see the clubman in USA till Feb'09.

There's no guarantee that the '08 will be in dealerships in September - with the delayed launch of the '07s here, it could also be delayed.
Typically there will be a (small) price increase when the '08s do arrive, and sometimes there will be feature changes - OK if something new is added that you want, but not so good if something (or a color) is deleted that you wanted.

Seems to me that if driving the MINI for an extra 4-6 months isn't important to you, then maybe the MINI is not your best car choice! Or are you already driving an older MINI?

Hello all,
In 2 days it will be 1 full year that I have not personally had a car, if I wait to order an 08 it really wouldn't bother me at all, Does anyone have any intel on when the 2008 models will be coming out? If so when could I plan on ordering one???
Thanx everyone

Hi Ken.

2008 will come out October 2007. If I order this coming July or August it should arrive in October.

Thanks Skuzzy for your input and advice. I too have a patient wife about my whining, etc. I keep telling myself the car will arrive next month but my wife is more realistic and expecting the car in June.

Thanks for pointing your signature. Did you keep changing your order for it still on status 111???

Wow im definitely behind the loop in all this. Does anyone know of any changes (besides refinement and bug fixes) coming in the 08 model that is expected to come out in october according to the above post? Id imagine the enhancements would be minimal, seeing as the 07 is less than a year old here in North America

There's surely no significant '08 changes - like the '06 after big '05 changes. But I guess ejkd simply wants the newest thing.

BTW ejkd - you realize MY '08 is determined by when the car is BUILT, not when it arrives at your dealership. You'll likely have to wait till at least late August or September to order it ...

Go for the '07. My MCS arrived sooner than promised. I called Customer Service to check on it expecting a long wait - and learned it had been built that day! My recollection it was only several weeks from ordering to delivery. My car is free of defects and a blast to drive.

My plan is to order a 2009 in summer 2008. If things are as usual, the 2009 MY will have a number of changes to fix problems/bugs, much as they did with the R53 2004 MY. And I expect that demand will have slacked up some, especially with the Clubman around the corner, so perhaps I can swing a small discount. But I've got a Mini to drive now, so there is little downside to waiting a bit. If you need a car now, get it now.

Since it was completely redesigned for 2007, I don't see too many changes for 2008 except perhaps new/different colors and what comes standard based on the most popular configurations for 2007. Of course, you will pay pay more for the 2008 model even if nothing changes.

Have you tried checking dealers for an '07 configured the way you want it? The dealers around me have lots of R56s in stock. Check around.

Why is it taking so long to get yours? What options/color is holding you up?

Me too, my wife is being really helpful here.

I'd wait and hope that some of the known issues like the moonroof noise get fixed on the 2008 models. Plus there should be more JCW factory tuning options available later.

Are you guys going by the Owner's Lounge info, because it's useless. My car was shown as "on order" until 2 days after it was made. Now, it's on the Freedom, nearing the US East Coast and the Owner's Lounge says it's awaiting transport.

As to your question, if you pull the order and wait until the 2008 release date, you will probably be waiting another year.
