What options did you order?

Hey everyone,

I'm going to be ordering my '07 MCS in a few months and I was wondering what options does everyone think are a must and which ones are more personal preference? The LSD is a must for me, but beyond that, I'm not sure.

I've heard about the sport button, but do you need to get the sport suspension option to get this or is it std on the MCS?

Is the DSC worth the $500?

I won't be racing the car but I like to do spirited driving once in a while.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sport button is standard equipment. For me, the manual transmission, perf package, LSD, radio upgrade. The rest was somewhere in between must have and want.

The sport button is standard.

Pretty much everything is personal preference, but here's what I got, and why:

LSD - Traction.
Premium - Wanted the Roof and MFSW. Seperately they're $1400, so the auto-AC ends up being "free".
Lounge Leather - I like leather, and was impressed with the sample I saw. Pretty pricy though.
Cold Weather - Only wanted the heated seats, but the heated washers are convenient. Was worth the extra premium over the seat option by itself.
Rear Fog Light - I'm stationed in Europe, so I'll use it. Mainly got it to fill out the row of toggle switches.
Xenon - Never had 'em before, so what the heck
Chrome interior/exterior - just wasting money
HiFi - learned my lesson on my '05 S40. When the stereo is that integrated, spend the money and buy the best one offered.
Brushed Alloy - the other's looked "cheap"
I didn't get DSC because I hate that stuff (and ASC). One more thing to break.

It sounds like comfort of the sports suspension has been very personal. Best case scenario is you can test drive both!

One small thing that is necessary for the interior is the chrome line. Some of the plastic is cheap-o.

Oops. I got those too. All I wanted were the auto wipers. Had to take the headlamps as a package.

I agree that there's better things to spend the money on.

LSD - was a must have for me
arm rest - nice to have
HID lights - not quite as good as I had imagined, but nice
Multifunction wheel (never actually got this, but ordered it)

I got the standard suspension and am happy with it. I may get bigger sway bars in the future, but for now it's just fine.

Aero Body Kit
Sirius Radio

There are some big $$ options among those I didn't get.

I guess some folks don't care, but at some point I'm sure I'd be wanting cruise control, (multi-function steering wheel). It bugs me that a $20,000 plus car doesn't come with cruise standard...not like you have to use if if you don't want to...but you or the next owner is probably gonna want it at some point, and retrofit is very expensive.

$20,000 for a car was not expensive 18 years ago. Get a $40K car and then you can expect cruise control to come with it.

Thanks for all the responses. As I learned from my last new car purchase, it's much easier to get options that are too hard to add, after you have the car. The LSD option is a must in my opinion. My main concerns are performance, suspension, vision, and braking. Everything else seems to be personal preference. Do you guys think the Xenon headlights make that much of a difference on this car?

Also, does the DSC really make a difference or should I put the money towards something else?

I haven't really checked around lately, but I think cruise control is standard on most everything except the cheap econo-boxes. Maybe if you never get out of the city it doesn't matter.......but, it is one of the few options that actually makes a difference in resale, and around here it's hard to sell a late model car without it.

For a MCS with a few options I probably should have used 25K instead of 20K, and, of course, some are a whole lot more.

I can't see myself spending that much money on my MINI like a lot of you people. I just don't think MCS is worth $30K.

I am ordering Dark silver with white roof with LSD.

DSC is nice to have but I have learned my lesson and the limits. Basically, it will save my a$$ when I am being reckless. As long as I drive sensibly I will be OK without DSC.

aem421,

I think xenons are definately worth it. Can't speak to dsc as I'll avoid it myself. Dsc , I think, is to try to cover you when you try to overcome physics!
