The overboost is on a Sport button on the left of the gear stick. Just push the button and the overboost is on line as well as firmer steering and faster throttle response.

Welcome to NAM by the way!

Overboost is not tied to the sport button being engaged or not. Overboost raises the torque to 192ft/lbs for a "breif" period of WOT. It's available from 1600rpm to 4500rpm.

It gives you 20ft/lbs more of torque when you slam on the gas pretty much. And no it's not more expensive to custom order your MINI. In fact it's encouraged!

Wide open throttle.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wide_open_throttle

I'd try to explain it but wikipedia is easier.

--->thestiguy: I know many people that have STI's, they are excellent cars. The MINI isn't in the same boat [autocross is A-stock versus G-stock], but it certainly is a ton of fun to drive!

Congrats and Welcome.
P.S. my Cooper S was $23.5k + $1,400 sales tax

Go to www.miniusa.com and configure a car. They will list MSRP. The rest of your numbers you will have to figure out yourself. We don't know where you live or what your tax/title/license rates are.

Don't let them stick you with high "document charges," or stuff like that. I paid $50 for that, plus the usual state and local charges, which vary according to where you live, of course. I think mine topped out at $28K something (drive away), with Sport, Premium, Cold Weather packages, plus LSD, automatic wipers, arm rests, and Union Jack mirror caps.

Welcome to NAM!!!

I would think you are UPGRADING to Mini S. STI is a great car. I would love to have one if the budget allows.

Originally, I bought MCS for weekend and occasional trackday. However, the more I drive, the more I like it. Every morning, my hand reachs the MCS key before it reach for my X5 4.4i, MCS get much better gas mileage anyway. I am UPGRADING to MCS from '05 X5 4.4i so to speak.

I put about 250 miles on the first three weeks of ownership until last weekend. My wife & I went to celebrate our 8th anniversary in Las Vegas and managed to put over 800 miles on the car. Now I am driving it everyday.
