Rear Fog Light(s) Option on MCS Question

Is the $100 option on the MCS for a single center mounted rear fog light or dual lights mounted on each side? TIA

On the new 2007 (Hardtop) models I believe the rear foglights are one on each side, so 2 in total Earlier models had just one, center-mounted rear fog

2007 Cooper also appears to have a single center-mounted rear fog:

Great, thanks. I like the dual ones. I didn't want a single one in the center.

The only addition we made to our original order of an MCS was the rear fog lights. There are two (as documented above) and we think they'll approve visibility to anyone behind us (though I don't know how they'll be able to catch up to us). They also keep you from having an empty toggle switch.

I ordered the (single) rear fog on my Cooper just to fill in that toggle switch space. That little plastic switch was expensive. But, I'll use the light. I'm glad they made the one on the Cooper larger, and the two lights on the Cooper S looks great, though. I've noticed a lot more cars with the extra rear lights or reflectors.

+1 I orginially ordered them on my S so i could fill the toggle space, but i find i use them in the rain, just to give some extra light on my back in poor driving conditions so people see me, and i flick them on and off when people are ridding up my @ss to warn them my mini will eat there hummer gas guzzler if they continue!

Same here! Got them mainly to fill the toggle but I'll use them for inclement weather and tailgaters.

No choice here as it's a legal requirement. Mind you don't switch you fog lights on whilst reaching for the windows switch!!

It is apparent that the MCS has 2 rear fog light lenses. But are both functional? It is common to have only 1 (usually in the left rear light housing) on cars, plus everything by MINI refers to the rear fog light - in the singular. Does anyone know if there are actually 2 working lights??

I think that rear fogs will be manditory here in US within the next few years, they sure do help in inclement/ poor visibility weather.

You are probably right. Too bad many folks who get them will leave them on all the time. Just like they do now with front fogs.

Forgot to get the Rear Fog lights Installed

I made only one mistake on my order. THat was that I did not get the rear fog lights. Honestly, do not know what I was thinking. Question is, can I buy/ install them at a later date? Would such a kit come with a Toggle Switch as well? I searched old mini parts, and found no such kit for previous models. Any ideas?

I find having the front fogs on in non-inclement weather provides additional lighting for cornering while still keeping the light down on the road and out of anyone's eyes. I don't see this as an issue unless they are aimed improperly.

Guess I'll agree to disagree with you on that.

I don't know about the MINI fog lights (yet), but the problem I have with using fog or "driving" lights in non-inclement weather is that they blow your night vision. They brightly illuminate things that are too close for you to do anything about, and make it hard to see things that are outside their throw.

My Cooper S has front and rear fogs. The fronts add some good lighting to the left and right sides of the car, really improving visibility.

The rear fogs light up the back bumper pretty well. Curiously enough, in Germany, the rear fog light was always on the left side. Suddenly we've got center mounted fog lights and dual fog lights. Have the rules changed overseas? Here in the US rear fog lights weren't really addressed. I do think having two in back add to the visibility during inclement weather.

In the UK, (as in the rest of Europe) rear fog lights are compulsory. Whether its one or two is up to the manufacturer. Some car companies (Ford) sometimes save money by using one location for a reversing light and the other for a fog light.
