Yeah, MINIs don't come with a trunk - or a boot. They just come with a glovebox behind the rear seats.

Pardon my ignorance...

Pardon my ignorance if it has already been posted (which I would be very suprised if it hasn't), but I own a 2009 MINI Cooper S and I cannot seem to be able to turn the lights off when I'm driving. Both the main lights and the fog lights in the front bumper are on at all times when driving. I KNOW there's a way to turn them off because I see other second generation MINIS with them off; I don't think I've ever seen one with them on during the day time. I do have the switch on the stalk set to off (hollos circle), but they still are on. Are these just day-time driving lights? Is there a problem with the wiring perhaps? Again, sorry if this is a stupid question; I'd just rather be safe than sorry.

You simply have the daytime lights option on. Well, they aren't really daytime lights, they're night-time lights which are on all of the time. You can turn off the daytime lights function in the setup menu on the tach...I forget exactly how to get there, but check out your manual and it'll show you.

It's all done through the left side stalk--simple computer choices, just as with your "1 or 3 flashes" for the turn signals, automatic locking, etc. One thing to remember--anytime you make selections like these, you need to program both keys. Unless, of course, you actually want the selections to be different as "his & her" choices.

The computer will allow you 10-15 seconds of continuous screen washer use and then it stops. Repress the switch and it will give another 10-15 seconds.

It is not possible to hear a small Germanic voice inside the dashboard saying "Now you are just indulging yourself needlessly viz all ziss vashing unt I vill not allow it any more...." but I like to think it's there....

Best post all day. And I heartily agree - I could swear I've heard that voice too!

You think that's bad, that little German in the dash gets uber-irate when you try to repeatedly use the headlight washer jets (if so equipped).

I've had MINIs for 2.5 years now, just realized it could play mp3 cds when a friend brought one in my car. Who still uses cds!?

I do! I bought a book recently that was described as being on standard CDs, but turned out to be on a single MP3 disc. Each track was over an hour long! As many of you have found out, there's no way to start from the point where you stopped--it goes back to the beginning of the track, unless the car has been off less than 20 minutes. (Yes, I've done all the things various posters have suggested, AND checked with the factory engineers.) It was a miserable experience, and took me forever to listen to the book, as my typical drive is about 20 to 30 minutes.

Who else still uses CDs? My buyers. I sell new and used audiobooks on Ebay, and have sold well over 350 in the past 90 days!

Re washers: ROFL! Another example of over-enthusiastic programmers at BMW!

Re MP3s:
1. you do lose some sound quality though. And the standard CD player can do with all the sound quality it can get. (Happy to say the standard player in the R56 LCI is significantly better - clearer and more bass)
2. If you press "List" you can scan through the tracks nicely. If you organize them into folders as you write them to the CD, you get that structure on the MINI display. Neat.

And DaffodilDeb: you'll be partly pleased to know that at least the fast forward or "rewind" in the new R56 LCI is much faster than before. Still resets as before, but a little less frustrating...

Some things I’ve learned in three weeks of ownership

The Engine start button. You just push and release to start engine. You do not have to hold button until engine starts

DMVs around the country consider it to be a MNNI, not a MINI

The auto climate control works GREAT, at least in the 2011’s. I set it on 70 the day I bought it and have not touched HVAC controls since then.

Chili Red is the best color

A not-so-helpful* suggestion: transfer the book to a USB key and play it through the USB/AUX port. It restarts the track from the point where you stopped.

*This is not-so-helpful because you have to have the USB package.

This happened to me the other day. Popped off my A Pillar and pulled the inside door latch open with a wire hanger jammed behind the window

Congrats on your new baby!

Your profile doesn't show where you live, but if it's in Texas, you might find the auto climate control isn't nearly as appealing in the summertime. It's been great on our BMWs, but just isn't up to the job in the MINI. Mine is constantly cycling on and off, and when it's "off" it's hot.

(You're right about the Chili Red!)

Yeah, and the '07s don't.

Funny thing, that's basically what the locksmith did, although it was on the B pillar. We initially flagged down a passing cop, but he declined to use a slim jim because (he said) there had been a recent incident when an officer was killed by a exploding airbag when trying to use it. Snopes said it never happened, but he said it had.

North Carolina and I've seen it 104 Deg F here in the Summer with high humidity so I suspect the AC will be "Challenged" in July. I know my 2007 Honda Civic cannot handle the heat

Southern Arizona here... I love my auto AC in the summer!

I think having a good, heat-blocking ceramic tint on the windows and sunroof helps.
