Lava, my MA says they're bolted down--he says there is a service bulletin to show the techs how. I'd love to see it!

however it's done, half the front dash has to be disassembled to do it. So it's not a simple job.

sure, press and hold the interior light button for 3 seconds. this should toggle them off. if you want to turn them back on, just push the button again and they'll work normally

I was happy to find out that the MCS came with a real horn and not some diminutive beep.

I was surprised to find out how well the MINI handles on a skidpad. I just returned from a BMW sponsored Car Control School here in Houston, and there was a round skidpad. No matter what we tried we couldn't get that car to spin--even with DSC off and the handbrake jerked on! The most it would do even then was wiggle a little in the ring around the pylons. Very impressive!

Did you know that if you press the blinker down (for the left side - up for the right side) it will turn the left side parking lights on?

A good safety feature if you ask me!

And if you do the reverse, it turns on the right side one.

Yup, that's what I meant by "down (for the left side - up for the right side)"

If Equipped with PFMs (Power Folding Mirrors)

You can retract the mirrors at speeds at up to 20 MPH - however any speed above that does not allow you to retract them. However, if they are retracted, they can be extended at any speed!

The cigarette lighter outlet shuts off when the key is out. Handy if you run a radar detector--no problems if you forget to unplug it.

didnt know on the 07 S that the hood scoop is 100% nonfunctional. there are no holes in the honeycomb grill that lies just inside the scoop. meaning no air is getting in there.

ah well, still looks cool though.

There has been a report in another thread that the latest deliveries have a semi-functional scoop.

is there a way to make the R56 MCS make the beep sound when you press the lock button on your key FOB twice?

i looked in my manual at the lock/unlock sections and I see a little icon that looks like a horn... but I can't find it when I'm at the key-lock/unlock options.

I was surprised the U.S. spec cars did this. It's common in Europe. When parking on a street at night, if there's no street lamp you have to use the parking light.

I imagine it (and the yellow rear flasher) will go away in the future for the U.S. cars.

It's been in all US spec MINI since the beginning (2002).

It's also been spec on previous BMW's I've owned, E28, E36, E34, E46, and E61, so I imagine BMW/MINI will keep doing it. The only problem is that US drivers don't know about it and the turn signal accidentally gets bumped as the driver exits the car, thus inadvertantly turning on one side's marker.

That "feature" is part of the optional alarm. My car is prewired for the alarm but doesn't do the beep and nor is the choice to set it available on the computer.

I just found out the radio reads MP3 cds! I will burn one with a bunch of songs and test.

You know, I find it really annoying when people honk their horns while setting their alarms or locking their cars. Just listen for the mechanical noise of the doors locking. Or watch the LED for the alarm if you don't trust the device. Why do you have to subject everyone in the parking lot to your horn?

Me, too Robin. Plus, you can have it just flash the parking lights, which confirms it, without the noise.

Cup Holders

It seems the cup holders are made for cans or a 12 oz cup.....I commute 50 miles to work and need a 20 oz jolt in the AM, However, place that cup in the cup holder and the Mini grabs it with the "deathstar" grip......Probably a sign to cut down on my caffine intake........
