My fingers slip out of them, so I just grab onto the boot 'hook' with my finger and pull it down.

I just found out about this this morning. We couldn't get Shawn to do intermittent, so I looked in the manual, it tells you about the stalk push.

This explains why I couldn't get the wipers in the S we hired last year in Scotland to work properly, intermittent seemed to be broken. I was used to Tristan who works like the 07 manual says, and its just 1 push up.

We've had Shawn 3 months and I'm not sure we've had to use the wipers yet, we were up unusually early this morning and it was misty. If we hadn't it'd probably be December before he saw any rain.

Yes, it was an interesting change. I have a week 3 '07 build--delivered 4 days after the U.S. introduction, and I originally had the "push up" setting for intermittent wipers. I also had a defect in the cruise control (it would "drop out" periodically). It turned out to be a programming issue, and when the car was flashed the wipers became "push on," in spite, of course, of instructions in the book. And nobody at the dealership told me--just happened to be an accidental finding. And when they flashed to fix the cruise control, it made it quite "jerky" when it kicked in. The SZL replacement called for a flash, too, and they fixed that jerk! Amazing what those little programs can do, isn't it?

Weird, the 08 has an icon to suggest pushing the button, the 07's icon suggest pushing the stalk up. I'm not even sure there is a button on the 07.

I've only had the car for a month 5 weeks and if there's a button to press I think I missed it. I always push up on the wiper stalk. I'll have to look tomorrow.

I didn't know how annoying it would be to try to open your windows a just crack. Buttons are backwards... should be a quick flick just opens it a tad; hold longer to open or close totally or until flicking the switch in the other direction... If that can be changed in the Navi display config, I haven't found it. If solution is posted here or in another thread, please pardon that I didn't search.

I believe it is on the end of the stalk.

Most modern cars work that way. My 1990 Integra has the same thing. It is the toll booth option. Many folk drive with windows up and AC on. So, the only time they lower the window, they want it all the way down. Supposedly, at something over 45 mph, it is more fuel efficient to keep windows up and AC on than to run with windows open.

With practice, you'll get the feel for controlling the windows.

I'm still not sure Tristan has a button on the end of the stalk. The end moves slightly if I push it in, it doesn't seem to do anything. Its not like the button that shawn has, that has much more travel.

I'm assuming that you have the automatic wipers. The regular wiper stalk wouldn't have the button. I HAVE heard of some auto wiper stalks that don't have the button--try asking your SA for a replacement. Again, I'm only talking about the optional auto wipers.

I don't think there's any practice possible that can get me say a 1/4" open crack of the window; other than open a lot then close back & time it. A bit over an inch is the smallest I've achieved. I guess it's that in my W202 [C43] it works the [ahem] "right way". You push 1/2-way and it's manual; push all the way and it's auto-down or up. ...much more user friendly and always works. ... not to digress on the thread any further tho.

Just regular wipers. Shawn also only has regular wipers, but does have the button now they use it for intermittent.

A quick "down-up" motion seems to be best. It seems quicker than the "double-tap" to me.

I've been doing the double-tap but the motor is so fast that you can't just open a slit. I'm going to try the "down-up" method.

My Toyota 4Runner windows work the same way... a bit weird... but I am getting use to using them too.

Tried the down-up today. Worked real well provided your reflexes are quick!

perhaps; surprise bmw allowed it to be a "video game" to open the window to the exact amount you want while driving, and taking attention away from the road.

Might be more efficient on the assembly line to put them on all, and then pick out the auto wipers for, what, programming?

There is an alternate setting for the rear seats that allows a little extra room in the boot and still lets passengers sit in the rear seat (maybe a little uncomfortably, but safely). Fold the rear seat backrest forward, then pull up on the rear seat latch bar. The top part of this latch bar is where the seat normally latches onto the rest of the car; you need to pull up on the bottom part of the bar, about 6 inches below the ordinary latch point. Then, latch the rear seat to the latch bar.
I just went outside and tried this. What exactly was it meant for? It's too uncomfortable to allow anyone to sit back there, is it just for a little bit of extra room?

Mark

But this is the Mini we're talking about. It would make waaaaay too much sense to put an detent in the switch for the auto down/up...

Mark,

That's all it is. I've used it that way several times when I've had gear in the back. But it doesn't provide much extra room. And I always move it back when I have passengers in the back seat.

Mark yes to allow a little extra cargo room.True it does force the seat back at a bit of a forward angle though too. Each rear seat back has that option so I imagine that if you had a 3rd passenger just do that to the opposite side.
