R56 Things you didn't know about your R56 MINI
Did you know that in Europe the r56s have a different stock radio then the r56s in North America. The US/CAN models have a stock 2 line radio similar to the ones in BMWs (similar software) while the European models the stock radio is a singled lined radio which far more basic. But you can option up to the stock North American Radio (BUT VERY EXPENSIVE and not worth it).
The R56 does not have dealer-programed options. Car owners can do all of their own programming.
That said, there is no way to program the second-generation car to have its doors unlock after stopping.
Your only choice is to have the locks engage automatically when driving off and manually unlock them when you stop or leave them unlocked all of the time while driving.

pull the headlight stalk towards you after you've turned off the engine and pulled out the key. It'll turn your headlights on for 30-60 seconds.
I just don't program the doors to lock, that way they're still unlocked when I get to where I'm going.
I did after looking at the MINI UK configurator. I assume that it comes as standard in real MINI mode (ie "sport" mode), not soggy American mode, so there's no need to add it later. I'm considering my first mod which will be sport always on, I don't want the bloody thing.
The 08 MCS came with the same toolkit as the 07 MC did. Everthing you need to change a tire, including the jack. Have you looked under the boot floor for it?
Here's a funny one for you--a kind of red-faced one at that. Hubby and I are on vacation in my MINI--Houston to D.C.--and yesterday we discovered that the rear sunroof has a net screen just like the front one. I know you're all rolling your eyes at that one, but when mine was delivered in February '07 (yes, one of the very first R56s in the country), it only had one screen pulled out--never even thought about it at the time.
Just goes to show you, never assume you can't learn something new about an old friend...

Woah! I took delivery of my 08 this past March and i didn't know it came with a toolkit!
So it will be like driving the car in SPORT MODE all the time??? But on the DEMO car I drove had the SPORT button.

You mean you didn't catch that when you were SCOURING the brand-new MINI for cool stuff/pushing all the new buttons, etc.???? Whoah.... I got my first good laugh! Thanks, daffodildeb!
NO. They have to pay to get the sportier driving sport button. Otherwise it's just the normal "stall the car when starting off" sensitivity.
Nope, totally missed it. After all, the "handle" was up against the roof divider. Hubby said he hadn't noticed it, either. Neither of us sat in the back seat. And in spite of a VERY thorough briefing by our MA, it just wasn't mentioned. I wonder why it was delivered in the closed position.
When did this start--it was standard on my '07.
Deb,
I think they're still talking about the British configuration. The sport button, at least initially, did not come standard in the UK.
Hey, by the way, after your earlier post, I, too, discovered the sliding mesh screen on the rear sunroof. You weren't the only one who didn't know it was there.

Glad to know I could help! I think it has made a difference to have the rear screen pulled, too.
As for the tool kit and jack, when we took delivery 4 days after the release of the R56 in '07, there was no jack. Our MA immediately pulled one from a Cooper on the sales floor, as well as a lug wrench. Only later did we discover that it wasn't standard on the MCS. A few months later it was included. Now it's not again, and the other tools aren't there, either?

The only Mini that's supposed to come with a jack/lugwrench is the MC that comes with a spare tire. The Minis that come with runflats aren't supposed to include the jack, only a few tools under the boot cover.
That varied according to when your car was built. All Coopers come with the jack and lug wrench. SOME of the early MCSs (pre-June) came with them; some didn't, depending on build week. I don't know what happened after June '07. There were some earlier threads on NAM about this.

You can control the vents with the Auto Air!
I wasn't going to re-read all three million posts in the this thread, so this may have been mentioned.
I have heard people complain about the lack of control in trying to direct the air manually to certain vents when you are using the auto climate control. I knew you were able to control where the air blows from by using the three buttons on the right side of the climate control screen. What I didn't realize is by pressing these buttons multiple times, you can direct multiple areas for the air at the same time. Defrost, Dash, and Footwells. I couldn't even do this with my Durango! Always learning something I didn't know with this car!

After the latest software update, the "Arrow Display" function on the navigation is no longer available. (I'm referring to the one that displays an arrow only, without the map). Personally, I don't use that feature, but you may want to know.
Also, this is in the owner's manual, but I don't like it. While the Dynamic Route mode is on, the navigation will automatically reroute if there is a traffic problem, but will provide no information on the screen about it. With it turned off, however, the nav will display what the obstruction is, where it is, how long the delay is, how it plans to reroute you, and give you the option to reroute. Thus, to me, "Dynamic Route" sounds good, but isn't.

Any other changes, like maybe the POI search function in that update? When did you get the update?
