Okay--does this only happen with Sirius, or mp3, or with ANY radio, or ANY CD play?

I have no idea since I have never seen it documented however, my configuration is 08 MC Week 15 build, Nav, standard stereo + HD Radio, no Sirius. It came on while listening to an FM broadcast station (actually two different ones). Anyone else heard the voices?

Cheers

Jim

AAACCTUALLY...it happens if the radio has the "Traffic" or "alert" setting on it. It'll switch and make the announcement for weather, traffic, etc. My '04 MCS kept doing it to me in Germany, and due to my poor Deutsche language skills, I couldn't figure it out at first. Once I did, and it happened in my '07 MCS, I knew what was causing it. Too many traffic jams! ANyway...I do NOT have sirus, only the radio and now iPod jack. ~~ (insert spooky voice) Listen to the voices....~~

Do you mean radio STATION, or the radio in my car? If the latter, how do I program it to enable this?

Yeah, and it's a PITA. Is there a way of making it start back up where it was when shut down?

Love those voices I hear -- they're my friends. Don't you all hear them too?

Here's something I did not know about my MINI: The DSC light on the tach will flash at you when you take those under-pass u-turns at speed. It is good to be done with the break-in and be able to drive aggressively again. It was great going from a dead stop to a flashing yellow light halfway through the turn.

I'll have to retract my comment on this one--only the windows open. I could have sworn the sunroof opened, too. Teaches me not to swear.

The flash means the DSC is triggering momentarily.

Where the Sam hill are you reading this? In any event, it's a Midwest thing, along with parts of Texas...

Roger that. I looked it up in the OM after it happened. Very cool, if a little distracting.

It's the radio in your car - I'd have to mess with mine for a minute, but I think it's part of the settings on the "i" (for information) in your setup...you might have to check the manual, though...I can't remember and can't get out to fiddle with mine to help at the moment!

I didn't think the US spec radios did that.

Traveling in the UK its really handy with TA (traffic announcement) on, it'll break in to whatever you're listening to (including the iPod) and give you traffic news. With EON (Enhanced Other Network) it'll temporarily retune your radio to another station to give you the traffic, it'll also hand you off to another radio station when you go out of range. The US radios are kind of primitive by comparison.

Yup - even though I got both the MCS there, they were stil US Specs. It's just the radio community picked up on it better over in Europe and they're just now getting on board with it in the US. You're right on that one!

Mine triggers occasionally, usually on the street out of my subdivision onto a highway. There are some overhanging trees that often make the pavement slippery. Fortunately it hasn't been used "for real," and the highway rarely has traffic.

I noticed today that when I opened the door, the iPod (conected to the Y-Cable) lit up. That probably means that the power to the iPod is being turned on at that time, along with the interior lights. I expected that would only happen when the ignition was turned on.

Can anyone help me out on the information required to program the "news alert" function? I can't find it in either the owner's manual or the radio manual. Is it an '07 thing?

I don't recall reading anything about this one. We all know (don't we?) that the key fobs are programmed separately as far as preferences are concerned. And the radio settings, too. But what about the a/c temperature settings? Yup--found out tonight. Clever, those Germans!

It's probably like the other power circuits. My radar detector goes off when the key is out, too. Mighty convenient--I often forgot to unplug in my old car. OTOH, my GPS doesn't charge once the engine is off. Oh well, can't have it both ways, I guess. I'd rather have the radar off.

Yes, but it came on when I opened the door, not when I put the key in the ignition.

I thought that was in the manual. I was reading the manual again in anticipation of Shawn's arrival and found that.

I forgot my VIN, so instead of looking at my sales information or my insurance card, I ... pulled off my back license plate.

No joke, there's a label under the plate with the VIN.

Huh? Why not just look through the windshield?
