Hold the &*%$#@ Sunroof button....

Had our 2007 MCS since Thursday now, lousy weather keeps us from putting any real mile on her, but as much as I love it, for some reason this really ticks me off...

Our 2004 MCS sunroof could be opened with a tap of the switch, or closed to the vented position with a tap. Heck, my old 2003 Ford Escape could do that also.

Now comes our new 2007, and you have to hold the button while it opens or closes. I know this sounds petty, but I like jumping in, hitting the two window buttons and the sunroof button and GO.

Why did they go backwards?!?!

AFTERMARKET....PLEASE HELP!!!!

I thought the same thing! How freakin annoying! You should be able to flip the switch once to tilt the panes and twice to open it fully.

Doesnt really bother me..

If you want to hit both your windows open and your sunroof why not just hold down your unlock button it will auto open all your windows and sunroof

Unlock Once - Unlocks Driver Door
Unlock Twice - Unlocks Passenger
Unlock Three (Hold Down) - Opens Roof and Windows

Doesnt that solve your problem and u can do that before u even get in..

That WOULD be annoying. Have you checked with the dealer to see if it's a programmable preference??

I noticed this as well and I loved it on my 05. I think this will be one of my biggest peves when I get my 07 in a few weeks. Holding down the key works most of the time but what if your getting off the interstate and your in traffic but you want the sunroof open too. You now have to make a decision on weather to shift or open the sunroof. (Big decision I know) but still. Now think of the same situation when it's raining. That would suck. I wonder if you will be able to close the sunroof from the key this time.

Does the R53 MCS do this as well?

I believe it's a programmable option, but it definitely works in my '04.

I had the exact same thing bother me while I was test driving the R56.
I asked the service guys and they said it should be fixed when the next update comes around.

Its programmable.

Cheers!

If you are using the fob, then you are correct, but, if you are using the comfort access that you paid extra for, then you cannot do it with the button on the door handle. With the button on the door handle (depending on how it is programmed) you press once for unlock, then the second press locks the doors again. Hold the button down on the first press does NOT open the windows and sunroof.

If I paid extra for comfort access, why do I want to fumble with the fob when I want the windows and roof open?

With comfort access, if your windows and roof are open when you get out of the car, if you press and hold the button on the door handle, the windows will close, then the roof will close. The same thing can happen with the key as well, just like the R53.

Are you refering to some software update, or the next generation of the car (2008 model, etc.)?

The reason I ask is that the owners manual clearly states that you have to have the button depressed until the roof is all the way open or closes. For them to put that in print, to me, indicates something they did on purpose without intent on changing it anytime soon.

I am thinking they did it for legal reasons, as children getting caught in power windows is getting a lot of press lately.

Perhaps if enough of us complained, they would come out with a software change for us?!?!?

Interesting. On my '06 R53, I don't tap the button but rather I briefly slide it back towards me and release it...it pops up the SR and then slides it all the way open. Closing however is a two step procedure. Slide the button forward (and release) and the SR slides shut, but then I have to press it again to lower it. THAT'S annoying..I always forget the second step and leave it popped. If it doesn't rain that keeps it cool, but if it rains...of course this is Vegas and it hardly ever rains...

Has anyone been able to find a way to use a one touch to open the sun roof? I'm guessing this is some safety thing. Would be nice to have a one touch windows roll up too.

I'm curious, for all you over seas, are the minis outside of the states acting the same way, or do you get one touch features?

This is the one thing that really bugs me about the car! I hate having to hold the button to open/close the sunroof and to close the windows...it's a true PITA! I would gladly pay for someone to fix it for me...it must be pretty simple to program if MINIs in England have it, no?

Anyone thought of a fix yet?

LOL, you smart ****! However, for me, the only thing that would be more frustrating and a "pain in the a$$", would be reaching up to find no sunshine/breeze button at all!!!!

Acually, there is something we can do. I'm SURE it's just a software setting. So if we whine enough, maybe they will make a change and release it to us!!

From what I've read on the R56 U.K. board, it is indeed, a programmable function that is disabled in the U.S., probably because of the overpaid, paranoid lawyers at BMWUSA. I'm going to ask my dealer if this function is even present on their programming computer, although I doubt that they will enable it.
