More anoying than having to hold it to open it to me is the fact there is no pause between the sunroof lifting, and then opening. I like to just lift it, to let the hot air out. But I find it difficult to lift it 100% without it starting to go to the open position. No THAT, is a pain in the ****!!

It should simply be: Tap once to lift, tap twice to open!

Consider this an official WHIIIIIIINNNNE!!!!

I used to be quite annoyed, but now I am zen. It's my meditative time, where for 9 seconds I say "Ooooooooom" and have the patience of a saint sitting there with my gosh darn finger holding down the switch waiting and waiting and waiting....

I think its all part of BMW's marketing strategy for the MINI.

Create torque streer to build and maintain a strong left arm. Fail to create an auto open sunroof to build and maintain a strong right arm.

In the end: BMW wants to create an army of lean, mean, and buff MINI drivers.

I can feel my six pack poking out already!

If you fully pull the switch toward you and then immediately release it, the sunroof will open to full tilt. Only if you continue to hold it will it start to slide...

Mine doesn't do that, I would be happier if it did

A BOUNTY ON A NEW SWITCH--

I am sure someone could come up with an easily installed extra circuit board or something to make the sunroof behave properly for well under $100.00.

As an incentive for someone smarter than me, I will offer $200.00 to the first person who can make my sunroof do what I want it to do... open with the touch of one (or two) presses, and close with one touch. My old 2003 Ford Escape could do this, why can't my whiz bang 2007 MINI?

It must be fairly easy to install, look completely stock, and work as requested, and also work with the comfort access, which I have. Of course, I will be the final judge as to wether or not the device/gizmo/whatever meets my criteria. Rest assured, I am anxious to get this resolved and will not be overly picky.

That does NOT work. for it to work, you have to time it exactly right which is close to impossible. My guess is your just pulling the switch, and letting go in a second, which is only opening it up slightly, not all the way. If you try to open it all the way, you will inevitably go to far and the front will start to lift to do the slide thing.

It does work. Every time. After I release the switch the top continues to open until it is full tilt.

I'd pay $200 for a one-touch open and close.

+1. There's a bit of a detent that you push through; it's explained in the manual. Since I figured that out I am a master of the tilt. Now if I could just get it to close properly from that position...

OK, so we got a $400.00 bounty to the electronics whiz who comes up with a solution.

Who out there can take on such a project?

Anyone got any suggestions as to who we should forward this thread to so we can generate some interest?

On my 05, the tilt activates by pressing (not to be confused w/sliding) the rear-facing portion of the switch directly, and of course committing the roof to full ajar is simply a matter of pulling the same switch in a sliding motion through the notch as mentioned by JohnnyF. Maybe a day late and a dollar short, but I figured it to be a good excuse to show-off my new upgraded signature.

Thanks for the tip! This works great. I wish I had discovered it earlier.

I am having some trouble with this. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I think it has something to do with if you miss it the first try, you are hosed.

For example, today at lunch I jump and and flick the switch, but not far enough to get past the detent, so it doesn't go up to full tilt.

Fair enough, so I flick it again like I'm supposed to, but it doesn't open to full tilt, just opens a little more.

Okay, so I close it all the way and flick it and it just opens a tiny bit again.

I think I'm going nuts, so I repeat this 6 or 7 times with the same results.

Frustrated out of my gourd, I shut the sunroof, turn off the engine, restart the engine and flick the switch and it opens to full tilt!

It is like once you miss it, you can't use it until you restart the engine.

I don't know, maybe I'm just uncoordinated. I swore it didn't work at all, but when I tried to show my wife it didn't work, I did it first try, which was the very first time I ever got it to work.

NO One Touch Sunroof!

I'd like to reopen this thread... I just picked up my 2007 CooperS and all is good except for this sunroof issue. Our 2004 MINI had this option - one-touch open/close from inside the car using the sunroof button.

Has anyone been able to confirm if this is a programable setting? Some of the references I've found have stated that its simply disabled on NA vehicles, but 'm baffled as to the reasoning? I don't buy the whole safety debate - pretty much EVERY luxury car has one-touch open/close on the sunroof and windows. (a previous safety issue for all cars was wrt the power window rocker switches - they could be stepped on by a child and the window would open and possibly catch their arm or neck. They were then changed to the pull-up type switches you now see).

It's ridiculous to think that MINI removed a feature on the new cars. Even with the previous one-touch close on the sunroof, it would never close it all the way, just to the tilt position. This is also silly, as the roof was often left open in the tilt position.

Most other cars have auto close on the sunroof, even our Toyota!

I'm happy to see MINI is planning one-touch close for the driver's window in 2008 (http://www.motoringfile.com/2007/07/...he-us-in-2008/), how about the sunroof? I wonder if an update could then be made to 2007 models? They should add it to BOTH windows, but I guess it's a start.

Any further thoughts on this?
