R56 Comfort Access (keyless entry)?
War of the key fobs
To continue hijacking the thread, I read that when I get into the car with keyless access fob # 1 in my pocket, my settings are selected. When driver # 2 gets into the car with fob # 2, her settings are selected instead.
Here's the question: What happens when both get into the car? First one in wins?

Good day all,
I'm very new with Mini's, hasn't arrived yet, but I own a BMW with comfort access so I will try to answer some of the questions:
Yes, you should be able to just touch the area where the switch/lock is and it will pop open.
And the winner is - who ever touches the car door handles first, this has happened to my wife and I quite a few times. But to fix that all you have to do is plug the FOB into the slot and it will switch back to your settings.
Again, not sure that this is how it will work exactly for the Mini, but that is how it works on my BMW.
Hope it helps.

Aside from the door mirrors and perhaps the single zone temperature, what else is there to set? The seats are all manual adjustment...

Will the car automatically lock when you walk away or do you still have to push the button on the fob to lock the car?
If I decide to throw down for this, I'm hoping never to have to touch the key fob once I put it in my pocket.

The fob has a button that can pop the latch on the boot though so you don't have to squeeze the handle on the boot
I don't really know the answer.I don't think so, but perhaps you can set it through the OBC to do so.
I think I read somewhere on the manual (pdf) that the door suppose to lock on it's own once the fob is more than 10 feet away from the car.
BTW, at the Chicago Auto Show, one of the representatives told me that only ONE fob will come with the car. Is that true? May be someone who already took delievery can comment on this.

Things like whether DRL is on, how long the lights stay on when the ignition is off, the automatic locking behavior, whether unlocking the driver door also unlocks the passenger door, etc. Search for "user programmable features" or check the PDF of the manual and start around page 40 -- that's where the programmable features are documented.

I have played with the comfort access a bit, and have found out a few things... First, we got 2 fobs with the car. The mirrors do not adjust themselves to a particular fob. The car will not lock itself automatically, you have to push the little button on the outside door handle to lock the car. If you hold the button down, it will also close the windows and sunroof, but it will do them one at a time, windows first, then sunroof, so it takes longer than on an R53. You can approach a locked car with the fob in your pocket and open the hatch by pushing (squeezing?) the latch. Our latch is very hard to sqeeze, and may have it looked at by the dealer.
Whats the wallet key? I know it comes with 2 key fobs, and then the key fobs have these mini keys inside them for the doors. Is that the wallet key?
Some manufacturers will give you two real keys, one valet key that won't open the trunk or glove compartment, and a wallet key. The valet key makes no sense in a MINI without a locking glove compartment. And the wallet key doesn't make much sense really when it's so hard to lock the key fob inside the car.
I want to use it for my MINI blog

Thanks
I have this feature and pushing the button is not a big deal. At first, I was like you, wanting the unlocking to be automatic but since you have to touch the door handle to open the door anyway, pushing the button becomes routine. I do find that pushing the button to lock is easier than using the key fob since I have a habit of putting it in my pocket before locking the car.
The door doesn't unlock automatically once you walk away? I thought that was part of the functionality?
I'm also interested in this wallet key. I carry a spare key in my wallet (the valet one, all I got with the car, but at least it's flat) not so much in case I lock my keys inside but in case i lose the keyring itself.
I was considering getting an extra keyfob with no battery in it inside the car as a "just in case' kinda thing (I want an extra battery in it anyways "just in case" I need to replace the one in the CA fob. They are not rechargeables as I understand it, only the standard fob is. But I need to find out if I have some way of keeping a standard "normal functioning" put-the-key-in-the-hole-and-turn key with me.
Off to email the MA again...

) but not aware of any functions that CLOSE the windows/sunroof. Please explain!
I think he was referring to locking the doors/closing the windows on the R53 with the key and how the windows and sunroof close at the same time (with the sunroof taking a bit longer) whereas on the R56 the windows close first, then the sunroof
