Hidden dealer fees
Hi all. First time posting, but have been surfing your site for a couple months.
I’m basically ready to order my mini MCS (sparkling Silver w/ Lounge leather Redwood) I was trying to come up with an out the door price and was wondering if the dealers have any hidden fees like MACO and dealer training fee. My brother is ordering his 335 coupe and that dealer is adding these fees that total couple hundred bucks each.
Thanks

hidden fees
I paid straight forward MSRP - buying a Mini was a wonderful thing, no haggling, no negotiations, none of the typical car buying ******** - the only other company that had the same approach of everybody pays the same price, ie. MSRP was Porsche.
No additional fees applied, other than $650 Destination

My dealer tried to charge me $500 for a dealer prep fee but I talked them down to $0 but they would not budge on their $300 document fee (which was ridiculous for under 5 min of paperwork as I brought my own financing & was buying out of state & had to file all the licensing paperwork myself)
I also paid a $249 document fee at Morristown. The explanation on the back of the Bill of Sale includes this: "In some cases, the fee includes some services that may be optional or may be performed by the Customer." So, we're paying for something we may not get or that we do ourselves.

I emailed the dealer and they are going to charge me 225 for office, paperwork, and delivery fee
What a joke since they are selling the car for MSRP

$399 Checkerflagmini.com Virginia Beach, Richmond dealer is the same or I would have gone there.
There must be an accounting advantage to these fees over calling them what they actually are, "pure profit".
Around here, at dealers that do negotiate price, they'll drop the price instead of drop the fee.

Actually that's not too bad.
I had a dealer try and charge me $595 for that prep. thing. They would lower to some degree, but they would not go to $0. They also wanted $400 for that doc. fee. So, I went to another dealer. This other dealer obviously wanted my business more, because they didn't charge a prep. fee, and they came down to $99 on the doc. fee. I'm also getting "free" floor mats, and they knocked $300 of the MSRP.
I was very pleased as to how it turned out considering how much others are paying over MSRP.

Here in New Mexico the dealer sends you the bill of sale and other documents about a month following purchase. It is then up to the purchaser to go to the motor vehicle department to register the car, get the permanate plate and registration, and the pink slip. Certainly that was true when I bought a Honda in 2003. Honda is another car maker whose dealers do not dicker or pull all of the tacky tricks practiced by some dealers/makers.
In fact, the on the last two new cars I've purchased in New Mexico, I was able to request either the classic yellow NM plate, or the new plate that looks like a California plate. I hope it's still possible to get a yellow plate; I like them, and my car will be mellow yellow.
Waiting is not a good thing,

Guess we have an honest dealer here. There were no acquisition fees, dealer training fees, or any other malarky other than the usual state and county fees (state inspection, sales tax, title, etc) and a $50 document fee plus MSRP. This is for an ordered '07, from MINI of The Woodlands in the Houston area.
And our MA (Art Bernhardt) threw in floor mats...

$1.25 tire fee? What did that cover?
I also had to pay a tire fee of $1.50 per tire including the spare. Here in NJ, it's a fee required by the state, not by the dealer. The money is deposited into the Tire Management and Cleanup Fund established by the EPA.

Keeler Mini near Albany, NY, quoted me the following:
MSRP w/accessories:$26,229
Tax: $2,098
Registration: $110
Inspection: $10
Waste Tire Fee: $12.50
Doc Fee $45

I know that my doc fee was higher when I bought a car down in Virginia. Paying hundreds of dollars to process papers seems a bit extreme but if that's what you have to pay to get the car of your dreams is it worth it?
