R56 Sport Suspension & Limited Slip
Sport Suspension & Limited Slip
Has anyone driven the new MCS with and without Sport Suspension - would love to hear your comments on the direct comparison - is it worth it (i.e. how much 'go-cart like' does it get on curvy roads vs. how much comfort do you loose?
Same questions on the limited slip differential - anyone tested with and without side by side?
I ordered both, seemed like a good idea ....

Haven't driven both (demo had neither). I ordered both.
If you listen to White Roof Radio, Gabe did an audio commentary while driving a number of the cars (none with either of these features, though). One this he has said a few times during (and since) is that the cars need the LSD. The sport suspention is also recommended if you want that flat cornering go-cart feel, too.

I am picking mine up tomorrow night. I have both sport suspension and LSD. I will let you know how it is.

I just couldn't spec the sports suspension after reading about how much stiffer it was according to Mini2 users. I was pretty interested, but "teeth rattling" was used to describe it a few times too many.
It's probably too late to do anything about it at this point. Build week 10 and all, and I'm not a tracker. (I do plan to do some enthusiastic driving "in the wild" however, but it also has to be something comfortable enough to commute as well, etc. ) I think the standard Mini suspension (improved over the standard R53 from what I understand) should be plenty for me.

I'm interested in knowing what the ride is like with and without too... I was reading a review a few days ago and it said buy the sport suspension with 16" wheels, or 17" wheels WITHOUT the sport suspension.
I'm inclined to buy both. Especially as they come as a package for only $1,200 here in Canada.
I'd say the LSD is a no-brainer though. It makes a HUGE difference in driving. :D :D :D

I got LSD and the sport package (with the 17's). I have to be honest, I didnt notice a lot of difference. The ride is stiffer and when you go over bumps you do feel it more than the standard suspension but I wouldnt describe it being anywhere near "teeth rattling". It really boils down to your tolerance level and what you plan to do with your car. For me, it was worth it.
I test drove two new S's Monday, one with Sports suspension, one without, neither had LSD. I used Sport mode on both cars, and there was lots more body roll and generally vague feeling on the standard car. If/when I get a new S it will have Sports suspension and LSD.
Motoringfile confirmed that springs, shocks and swaybar are different.

Sold... I don't care if my teeth fall out, I'll always wish I had added the option.
Money well spent. Don't know about you American's but for $1200 it's sport suspension + 17" wheels in Canada. I found the car is actually cheaper in Canada with most options. Thought I'd have to make a trip to California to buy one.
I'll be driving one with and without the sport suspension, lsd, and bigger wheels next week. Will keep you posted.
