The steering wheel ....

I didn't want the MFSW, so opted for the two-spoke wheel. I have since seen pictures of a three-spoke wheel without multi-function and today I sat in an R56 MCS that had a three-spoke wheel without multi-function.

Can it be ordered that way? I can't find it in the configurator and my MA has not gotten back to me yet.

You can't spec it with the configurator - at least you could not before. But they did build them that way accidently. You ought to ask you salesman and see if they will do it.

I'm in the same boat -- not sure I'd want to pay $200 plus install for just an additional spoke -- the wheel is otherwise the same.

There are at least 40 built that way by mistake. Call a few ny or nj dealers to find one that meets your spec. It will be 1 out of 40...a collectors edition

Yes, it is leather.

I've been through the configurator several times and can't find mention of a three-spoke without multi-function.

I think the only way to get one is to have your order messed up.

Or, maybe there is no two-spoke wheel ???

Yes the 3 spoke is not available as an ordered option in the US market. There was a mistake in the ordering system for the US cars and some orders that were supposed to get the 3 spoke MFSW are being delivered in the US without the multi function part.
These steering wheels are identical to the standard 2 spoke but with the added 3rd spoke.
The option of a 3 spoke wheel without Multi function was available in other Markets -- like the UK.

Thank you.

If I get one by mistake that will be fine by me.

Hey if someone said I could have one I wouldn't argue with them either but I wouldn't spend 200 plus installation for it -- which might be extensive. If it came on my car and they wanted me to pay for it I might turn the car down. Again not worth the 200 in my opinion and in retrospect if I were ordering a MINI today instead of picking one up in a number of days, I would definately order the cruise (MFSW).
On the JCW steering whl, I'm not sure but I think you would need to have to have the MFSW finctionality already and then all they have to do is rewire the new on and pop the SW on. It seems like a bargain but the price is for the wheel (part alone) you would have had to spend $550. for the MFSW part of which ($200) you're pulling off in order to replace irt at the dealer.

I am not sure where I read it, but I thought the JCW wheel was covered with the "alcantara" material rather than leather or wood. And I think its actually a fatter grip.

I believe you have the option of leather or the suede-like (I think that's what it is) alcatara material. It does appear thicker. I think it's on the JCW site
