Cloth Leatherette and Deceiving MINIUSA Website

So I ventured to the DC Auto Show - having ordered an 07 MCS - i'm slightly disappointed in my choice of cloth.

The leatherette looks much darker than the image on the website. In person it appears almost all blackish grey with only a hint of the bolsters being lighter. Compare that to the twotone cartoonish look on the site.

Second check cloth (which I picked) is very contrasted on the website appears very muted in person and sort of boring.

So if anyone ordered a Cooper S with heated seats and wants to trade Leatherette for Cloth - please let me know! ;-)

I wish I'd known that. That cartoonish look put me off of the leatherette (which I otherwise wanted) and I ordered leather instead because I wanted a solid, dark color. Sounds like I could have come close and saved $1500 by ordering the leatherette.

I could probably change it as I don't have a VIN or a production date yet. But my dealer says my previous changes are what have delayed things. I wonder if that is true?

If you haven't hit status 155 you should be ok to make a last minute change.

not even. status 112 is the absolute last you can make a change.. and even then it is a 'maybe'

look at it this way reelsmith - you know you'll have a fabulous interior even if you spent a bit more than you wanted to.

Have you been talking to my wife? Those are almost her words exactly.

I decided two weeks ago that I was going to keep my order as is ...and I am going to stick to that plan.

So, what is all of this about status 112 and 155? I think my car is at status 1.

Did you take any pics of the leatherette and the cloth. I'm not choosing leatherette right now because I don't like the two tone look on the configurator. If leatherette looks as you describe it, I would definitely reconsider.

I didn't but trust me - it looks so much better in person - the configurator is not accurate in that regard. Also, it does contain the cod-piece - which is also not reflected on the website.

It's the piece between the legs that supports your thighs.

well, i ordered the cloth checked (heated) ..humm hope I like it, with the dark headliner and dark grey int, with piano black trim and chrome - it better be loooooking good for 800 bucks ( I know that's NOT the best wooording ha) but you get my point

with my pepper white and black roof, I'm hoping for a nice clean look - with a dash of 'humm that looks nice' with the piano black, dark int options, and chrome trim.

I start production Feb 19th, and visit plant on that saturday - hoping to catch a look at my baby

So, just to ease my mind; becuase I worry about my choice on the interior and thinking it won't come out as planned, a.k.a the dealer had no samples for 07 choices.

Your door, which I have posted, is:

345 Chrome Trim interior
ZAH Anthracite Headliner, dark grey ( I know I can't see that in your pic hehe)
4BD Interior Surface Piano Black
4A7 Color Line Dark Grey interior

If so, them I'm a happy camper, and can now sleep at night.

I just notice something I haven't noticed before. What are the controls on the door for?

It looks like the windows, but I can't see it very well.

I would guess that or door locks.

EDIT: I think it is the mirrors.

Did the same thing and had the exact same impressions. The cloth is not contrasty at all. It seems the patterns are achieved by cross-weaving a shiny thread into a matte, darker thread (no idea if that's the case, but should give an idea of what it looks like), but whether you see any contrast depends on how the light falls on the cloth. In my case, the seatbacks looked sort of OK but the seat bottoms looked almost bereft of pattern.

As for the leatherette, if the red Mini was the one with it, I concur -- it looks really nice, ans seems more robust than the lounge leather (which is nice, but not $1900 nice). No doubt that's what I'd order, assuming the side bolsters match with the side and center armrests.

This sounds pretty good to me. I really didn't want the pattern to be too obvious. A subtle shinner is exactly what I wanted. I was hoping it was nothing like the high contrast VW GTI tartan seats -- I think they look so kidish and a high contrast pattern reminds me of seats ordered from a mail order catalog look.

I think MINI offers an optional merkin that works with the cod piece.

I ordered the space gray/panther black cloth after seeing it in person. It looks great with the PW and the black soft top; it really sets off the interior nicely.

Nice pics, thanks for posting. I may have to alter my order now, love the Piano Black with the Dark Grey Color line.

You can find a picture of the cloth back seats in the Autocar road test:

Mini Cooper - Picture Gallery - Autocar.co.uk#

The fifth picture in the gallery illustrates that whether one can see the pattern or not depends on the angle and the ambient light.

Thanks for that information.

I lied. I called my dealer today and swapped the leather for the leatherette ...then I added in the dark gray color line, chrome line interior and the stereo upgrade ...and still saved money. Yeah, this might delay things, but I don't care. I will hopefully own this car a long time ...so I may as well get it right the first time.

Tricky business buying a car sight unseen.

Thank you, krut.

Dean.
