We made the jump

Last week, we placed a deposit for a 07 or 08 traveller. We are first on the list at the Scottsdale Dealership

Now where is my blasted time machine....

Awesome! How exciting.... We'll have to check our local dealer in So Cal to see if they are taking deposits yet....

You put down a deposit??? Cool. I'm probably going to trade up my '02 Cooper for an '07 MCS, but NW MINI isn't accepting deposits until they get the information in for the order... at least, that I know of!

Good luck on that Traveller. Those look like they're going to be really cool.

Why wouldn't a dealer take a deposit? Get the money, put it in a interest earining account untill late '07 - early '08 and make a few $$$ off of someone else's money?

That is what I would have done with my money...

But what ever floats your boat!

Diff a very good idea in theory.

However...I have a hard time saving... I like to spend money, so I'd rather make sure i'm on top of the list and atleast started on paying that bad boy/girl off

NW Mini have taken our order for an 07. But, then, this is Seattle and our original order for an 06 was placed in Feb and has transformed into an 07! A year long waiting list pretty much. Our order is due to be finalised sometime in November for an early 07 delivery.

Any concern about being the Guinea Pig for the "growing pains" that can come with early cars?

Just curious because I'm hoping there will be an '07 fix for the rust issue that was uncovered on the current car. That killed my plans for an '06.

They are collecting deposits already? The model hasn't been officially announced and isn't even expected to be out until the 2008 to most likely the 2009 model year. Your deposit could be collecting them interest for the next two years.

EDIT: reads rest of thread: DrDiff and I are on the same page.

Dealers will gladly take a deposit for anything even rumored to be released

2 reasons.

#1 it ensures us the first off the lot :-P
#2 I'm bad with money, well not bad i just like to spend it. This way we have 1K into the car and lessens the amount needed for a deposit.

may i ask how you placed an order on a traveller?

Was there a catalog or list of options? colors? features?

We haven't placed our order. We put down a deposit for an order.

So we are top of the list for the 08 or whatever year traveller.

If it turns out that they don't make one, we can change our deposit over for a standard S or get a refund.

you may be better of putting the deposit in a high year interest bearing account for the time it takes for MINI to announce the traveller release. At the very least, you can go out and get a nice dinner and movie

I told Long Beach MINI to put my name down first if they ever made a Traveller - in 2002, when I bought my Cooper. I was pretty sure, even back then. Every so often I check in, and Matt there always re-assures me. They haven't asked for a deposit, and they never have B4, so I'm looking forward to barn-doors in a year or so.

BCNU,
Rob in Dago

I think it's a good idea if you're in an area where there are huge waiting lists like me. The traveler is going to sweet esp if they go with the AWD getrag. Will probably be my 3rd mini in '08.
