Tire fitment question about my rims..

Long story short I FINALLY aquired a set of rims with style and fitment I like on my r58. The tires they came with are barely considered rubberbands and I prefer to have AS MUCH rubber on my wheels as possible.
my car is a 2011 r58 jcw with the full jcw suspension, brembos and the jcw red lowering springs.
my rims are 17x8 et40. Would I be safe to run a 215/50zr18 ? The current tores are 195/40r18 ( LOL )..Or would I have fitment issues and rubbing ? Or what do you think is best ? I prefer a chunky tire not just to better fill the wheelwells but because our roads out here are like war zones..

215/50-18 is going to be BIG on a Mini. Remember, OEM one the JCW is 205/45-17. OEM 18” wheel size is 205/40-18. You could do 215/40-18, but I wouldn’t go much bigger then that.

This is a really good sizing tool:

I've run 215/55r16s on my r53 with the same brakes but those rims had an et20 offset...
I just worry that if I get 45tall tires there will too much of a wheel gap. If it's more than 2x fingers , it looks terrible to me.
I have like a week to figure out what size I need , them once I'm back home i will order them.. lol unfortunately im probably going with bottom of the barrel tires for now. I will explain why in my build thread but I eventually would like to get indy 500 tires again. Dollar for dollar those have been by far the best all around tires I've used..
BTW I'm NOT against getting like 5mm or so thick spacers and extended lugs either because i DO plan on getting widebody flares eventually too for this car.

I wouldn’t run 18’s period, if you are worried about potholes. I know you have run 16’s, have you tried a 17?

There is still a huge difference between a 215/55-16 and a 215/50-18. That 18" tire size will be almost 1.5" bigger in diameter.

In my opinion, the modification path should be: get the suspension and ride height where you want it, then pick out wheels and tires. If you're getting flares, get those figured out before picking wheels and tires. It's kind of backwards to pick out wheels, then tires, then suspension. Clearance is everything on these cars.

Seriously, that wheel-tire size calculator I linked is an excellent resource. Measure all around the suspension and fenders, enter the values and current wheel specs, and mess around to find a wheel size, offset, and tire size that will get close to the fitment you want.

no , it's really not.. you get the wheels and fitment figured out 1st , then you do the flares.. otherwise how do you know how wide of flares to get ?? Just my experience I wished I'd have gotten my fitment figured out befor the widebody flares I did on my r53.
it adds alot less guessing and im sticking with 18s because they are what i have amd it leave me the room for a 6piston caliper upgrade eventually then..
I get that it's bigger but I DONT WANT more than 2x fingers worth of wheelwell and stock fitment, stock tires ext have 3fingers worth of gap...
here's how terrible the wheelgap is when it has 205/40r17s on.. it had 3 1/2 finger gap..
lol I know I know , I will stop using fingers for measurements.. soon as im back home i will definitely get out and measure things and check out that tire calculator.
but my goal is to keep this jcw suspension, id rather not put coilovers on as the ride WILL suffer unless i buy 1000$+ coilovers. My buddies r56 with the better model godspeed coils , my car ride far FAR better, no matter how he has had those coils set, it's never rode hard as nice as mine. Granted it Def is more planted with coils , it lost alot of comfort and I wanna keep comfort in this car.. keeping ac , keeping cruise control, I'm keeping IT ALL this time around in this build.

205/40/r17

205/45r15

205/50r17

195/40r18

I am running a 215/40r18x7 with a 40 offset and 5mm spacers in the front. I have a 09 jcw clubman. I installed some rev9 coilovers and the ride quality is terrible. super bouncy. I want to get some bc racing coilovers to replace them.

I'm sorry guys I'm so stupid , lol I heard wrong and didn't check and just assumed..derderder THESE ARE 17IN RIMS I HAVE !
LOLOL soooooooo I'm just going to run abit wider tire but same height than i had befor since these are abit more aggressive offset.
so I will run a 215/50zr17 and just call it done..

I run Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 225/45-17 all the way around for what it's worth.

niiiiiiice. What Is your offset on your rims ?
Those are my favorite favorite brand n model tires( next to indy firehawk500s)..
These are the brand n model I ended up going with ( 225/50zr17) due to budget constraints but AFTER I purchased them , I guess they're halfway decent tires for this car.. I ALMOST bought forcum hena tires again because I had them once and I really liked their tread and tire design as they protect rims from curb rash with a special built in outer edge lip/extension BUT they had **** traction on dry pavement. Idk if it was because the set I got was already 3yr old and may have been stored improperly ??? Idk 🤷‍♂️ but either way , I needed better traction more than I needed a stylish looking tire.
the guy was testing rwd BUT should be around the same power as my r58 ( 270-300) and my car is fwd not rwd so it SHOULD help launch traction more and they definitely should give me better traction than my 195/40 tires that are on rite now , lol these tires are so small , I gotta give mad credit to who ever mounted and balanced them because they had to do a hell of a stretch to get them on these 8in wide rims..
CORRECTION !!!! I ORDERED 225/45 NOT 225/50.

I hope those 225/50-17's fit... You're almost 2" taller than OEM tires.

I already had 50s on with no clearance issues but those were only a 205 wide.. and I messed up. Derder I ordered 225/45s not /50s..I felt behind my rims and I have decent room so they should fit.. again guys , IM NOT USING stock offset ! So stock rims fitment and guides for stock wheels mean very little.. I believe my rims off set is like an et37. They do have much more poke that oem but not a big amount by any means.

I believe it is 17x7.5 with 5.9" backspace and +42mm offset. I rub a little over bumps and especially when I have a passenger with me. I'm also on coilovers though too so I just need to adjust some more
