Trouble bleeding thermostat

Serpentine belt broke. Some of the coolant blew out and I replaced it.

I've opened the thermostat bleeder and had coolant come out a number of times and kneaded the upper radiator hose while the car ran and the AC was on. The coolant is at the proper level; in the expansion tank.

My water temp won't go above 125 F and is usually around 90 F. The fan stays on for a while every time I shut the car off.

I'm pulling a P112B Code:
"The P112B code on a Mini Cooper indicates an implausibility in the coolant temperature. This could be due to a faulty thermostat or coolant temperature sensor."

Suggestions?

Thanks!

The above statement makes no sense. Can you clarify?

It seems contradictory, I know.

My torque app reads the water temp as 90 F +-. I don't think that's the actual temp as I'm assuming that there is air around the temp sensor.

Not sure what triggers the fan.

Since I lost and replaced coolant, I assume that these problems relate to the coolant not being bled. I think that I experienced something like this when I replaced my water pump.

Yep air in the system, you have to bleed it a couple times. Air sets at the top of the thermostat near the sensor and the fan kicks on all the time. I seen the fan even kick on after start up.

Still bleeding and expect that will do the trick eventually.

Trying to make sense of the fact that the temperature shows around 100 F +-. Would the thermostat open at that temp?

If it doesn't, how do I get a good bleed. Also, if the temp reads 100 F +-. why does the fan always go on?

If the temp sensor gets any air on it, it seem to run the fan no matter the temp, i think its spikes or fluctuates the temp and causes an error and the fan to run all the time. I would start with the multiple bleed process first. If that does not work its a faulty sensor itself.

Probably not what you want to hear right now, but I have found that the R56 generation of engines are terrible for bleeding air out of the coolant system. Too many pockets and holes for air to get trapped, which leads to issues. (as you are finding out)

If you can get your hands on a vacuum bleeder tool, they work fantastic for purging and filling these cars.

I have this kit:

A little pricey, but worth it when you can avoid the air purging process.

I've repeatedly bled the thermostat bleeder.

I removed the temp sensor and there was fluid to the top ( I topped it off anyway.

The fan comes on at start. My temp still reads low 98F +-

Why would the fan come on if the temp sensor reads cold?

I'm at a loss!

Update.

Replaced the thermostat and water pipe. Temperature normal now. It appears that the old thermostat may have been stuck (open? closed?)
