R56 Fan on when cold AGAIN!!
Fan on when cold AGAIN!!
Hello,
At my wits end with my partners car, Cooper S.
When the car is cold and the engine is turned on and immediately turned off, the fan runs for around 20 minutes, this is causing my battery to run flat.
Had this problem on 2 previous occasions
Feb 2019 , new thermostat housing, issue resolved (50k miles on clock)
Nov 2020 new coolant temp sensor followed by a thermostat housing , issue resolved (55810 on the clock)
Today same issue, only 60500 on the clock.
Are the mechanics investigating the wrong thing here or is this car really bad!!??
Could be a coincidence but thought i would mention that i have had the turbo oil feed replaced 2 weeks ago.
I am hoping someone on here may be able to help me as I don't want to send this car to scrap metal!
Thanks in advance

The second time I had it done, they told me that the first one probably used aftermarket so I am assuming they used genuine parts, I should check.
To turn it off to get some charge in the battery, i unplugged fan speed 1
Would it be harmful to never have speed 1 relay in and rely on speed 2?

MINI had gone to thermostat housings with separately accessible temperature sensors prior to 2017. If the current housing does not allow for the sensor to be replaced cheaply by itself, then it was not what BMW/MINI was supplying as parts at the time.
If the housing (whether genuine or aftermarket) does allow the temp sensor to be replaced and the plug seems to be OK, then I'd just change the sensor before digging deeper. It cost less than the equivalent of 5 bucks back in 2017 (in Europe).
