For the purpose of comfort access, it’s highly suggested that you take the intake manifold off because the amount of time you take the throttle body off alone, you’ll be experiencing a lot discomfort due to cramped space. Not worth it of trying to get the throttle body off by itself.
on Cooper S with N14 it is possible, but some screws cannot be seen from above so you have to work blindly..
Small hands and a small wrench / small cordless electirc screwdriver helped too.
I had to replace mine some months ago and with some swearing I got it out and was able to put it back
Twice (first I tried to clean it, then I had to replace it..)
Check some YT vids to see what needs to be screwed out / removed before and remember! the orientation of the throttle body, because you are putting it back blindly too.
Blind screws.... That's the order of the day with these cars....
Have you ever changed the oil cooler gaskets....ha... Or the turbo auxiliary coolant pump? You need eyes on your fingers... And Bluetack to hold the bolts in the socket...

I ordered new intake manifold gaskets from rockauto.... Even though I changed those maybe 5 years ago and i bet i could reuse them. I ain't doing this twice ....
VDO / Siemens belings to Continental so it is fine.
Only thing you should probably do is to reset the throttle body adaptations.
Via INPA/ISTA or I think there is a method with ingnition on, full throttle for 30sec. etc.
I don't think my autoengenuity had TB adaptations reset....crap

What software do you use? I'm having issues with the Autoenginuity and BMW even though I have the BMW package.
Thanks for instructions... Hopefully that works
I used INPA
should be possible to do it with ISTA too.
TBH I dont know if we need to delete the adaptations or relearn the new part.
I just wanted to be on the safe side, because my old throttle body got stuck and my car went into "save/limp mode".
I wanted to remove all traces of the faulty throttle body
How expensive is that software and obdii connector?
i think the weird throttle response in the mini is ubiquitous... But sometimes it's extra unpredictable and in hoping this might help but I'm not betting on it
Either way, i don't like surprises so I'm changing it. I should have done it when I swapped the motor.

INPA / ISTA can be found online for free (dont know about the legality)
K+DCAN USB cable can be found everywhere.
I used a cheaper one from Amazon for around 30€
Both
Standard Tools include INPA, Tool32, NCSExpert etc. (The programs or apps itself)
SP-Datens is the database for the cars models / ECUs etc.
So first step is to install Standard Tools and then Update the files with the actual SP Datens files / database
If you should have more questions, there are some step by step YT videos or tutorials.
I just bought a no name cheap K+Dcan cable with a switch and it does everything I need.
If you need a "high quality" cable, then some people recommend to buy the Bimmergeeks cable
